Pamela Perkins was handcuffed to a hospital bed and recovering from a gunshot wound. And she was not happy. Not at all.

" Who the fuck are you? ," she shot out tersely as she looked at the tall lean and gorgeous Black woman who stood before her.

The woman smiled at her with a cold glint flickering on the edges of it as she put down her expensive briefcase on the cool tiled floor. " My name is Christine Collins. I'm an attorney your mother hired to represent you on some very serious charges. Two counts of first degree murder. One being a police officer. Two counts of attempted murder. Again one being on a police officer. False imprisonment of a police officer. Gun charges. Domestic terrorism charges for trying to bomb a school. Credit card fraud. These are serious charges. So I advise you to cut the bullshit and treat me well. Right now I'm your best friend, Pamela. Or do you prefer Penelope? " She smiled even colder. " I have a plan to keep you out of prison though. "

Pamela gritted her teeth as she reached out to press the button on her morphine drip. She didn't know what pain was worse. The damn chest wound or these headaches. " How? I'm being framed. By that damn Faith Lane. "

The lawyer looked at her with mockery. " Right. The victim, a homicide detective with a fairly decent record, is framing you. No. We're not going that particular route. "

" Then ," Pamela mocked right back at the annoying to her woman ," what particular route are " we " going ? "

" I want you to sit down with a psychiatrist of my choosing. I want you to submit to a full physical exam including a MRI and cat scan. Why ? Because I plan to say your actions resulted from your being temporarily insane. You might be placed in a state mental hospital for a certain amount of time but that's better than prison. Don't you think?"

" No. I don't think it's better," she shot through clenched teeth.

" Too bad. Because this is your best option. Especially with your cousin Ross and his husband singing like birdies for the police and assistant state attorney in exchange for deals. It's insanity or prison. Your pick. "
