" Are you ready to go, DuBuis ? ," Richard asked his brother in law as he leaned on the cane that was becoming pretty much a part of him now. His leg still hurt occasionally from the shooting in the park last year and to his dismay he was developing a slight arthritis in it. It not only made jogging difficult but also walking their dogs King and Queenie with Nigel. And it made him feel old. Turning forty three recently didn't help matters much. Especially when he looked at his twenty eight year old husband and wondered if the man actually wanted a younger mate. But it could be worse, he thought as he looked at his brother in law who slowly stood up from the single bed in the room at the rehab facility that had been his home since early January.

DuBuis looked at him and smiled faintly. " I'm.... I've..... bbbbeen ready to gggo home since I came here. I think Spencer is getting..... ggggeting ..... Damn. "

Richard touched his arm gently. " I know my brother misses you. That's what I know. " He picked up DuBuis' suitcase. " He talks about you all the time. Nigel said the restaurant staff is getting tired of hearing your name whenever he comes to the restaurant. "  He laughed as they began to walk out of the room, both keeping pace with each other.

DuBuis laughed bitterly. " Right. From what I hear he's doing jjjjust gggreat. "

Richard cut his eyes at him. " I wouldn't say he is doing great. He's managing well is all. He surprised us all. We were worried about how he would handle everything. He's stronger than we think he is. "

DuBuis thought to himself that that was what worried him. That his husband was managing too well without him. That the man didn't need him anymore. But he kept those thoughts to himself. " I can't wait to ggget back to work next week. GGGerald said my job is waiting for me. GGGood. I'm bored. "

" I bet you are but ..... do you think you are ready? "

DuBuis sighed. " Why wouldn't I be ready? "
