Faith was late getting to the Moss Center on her Harley. She wanted to be there when Richard went to get her brother and took him home to where Spencer waited with the baby and also Mama and Nicholas and Andrew and Glory in a small welcome home party of sorts. But of course she was late.

Damn.

CPT , she laughed within her head as she continued to speed down the roadway on the motorcycle. As usual she did not wear her helmet. And she knew her brother would complain when he saw she wasn't. She was going to be so happy to hear his complaints about it. For a while there she thought they were going to lose him for good.

Things were looking up.

DuBuis was doing good recovery wise. He was coming back home again.

Spencer had proven himself in ways that surprised everyone. He was, damn it , an inspiration in how to hold it all together.

Her mother and that rich man of hers had married on Valentine's Day in a simple ceremony in DuBuis' rehab center room. They were almost impossibly happy in their Evergreen Acres condo.

And tonight she had her first date with the pretty sweet Reverend Joy Jones , a woman who she still thought was too good for her but whatever. It was just a date. They were not getting married after all. It had taken her forever to get the woman to agree to dinner actually. But tonight they were going to Richard and Nigel's for a bite to eat and then maybe over to Club J to dance and listen to music. Joe Jacobs was an ass but that club of his was pretty fun with good local music.  Since he had switched from a restaurant to a nightclub he had come to an uneasy truce with Nigel across the street.

Suddenly she heard the siren of a police cruiser from behind her. Out of the corner of her dark eyes she saw the cop inside it waving her over to the side of the road.

What the fuck ? She wasn't going any faster than she needed to. Who the fuck pulled over a motorcycle anyway? , she thought with disgust.

She sighed and pulled over. Yeah. She was gonna be late for sure. Maybe she should just head to the house instead.

She watched the young skinny White cop , one she didn't know, walking her way. He looked arrogant as fuck to her with his cocky swagger.

The cop sneered ," Going kinda fast , aren't you, girl ? "

Girl ? What the fuck ? She was in her late thirties. She wasn't no damn girl.

" Only way with a Harley, officer. Look,  I don't know you. Are you new ? I'm Detective Faith...."

He snapped," I don't give a shit what your name is. Where is your helmet? "

Faith stepped off the bike and he said roughly," Don't move! "

Faith rolled her eyes at him. " Look. I know about the no helmet law. Just give me a ticket. Ok ? I'm on the job by the way. Name's Faith Lane. I'm a detective with...."

" I said I don't care who you are ! And keep still ! "

She narrowed her eyes at him. This cocky little shit was getting on her nerves. Fucking uniform. Who did he think he was? She was a damn homicide detective. She had earned her gold shield. Bitch. " I want your name. And your badge number," she retorted as she stepped closer to him.

He touched his service revolver and said," Do not move ! "

" Your name. Your badge number. I want it. I'm reporting you. What the hell are you? A rookie or something? "

Then before she could even make another move the cop responded by punching her in the face with a closed fist. He grabbed her by her arms before she fell onto the ground, jerking her arms behind her back. " You are under arrest," he shot out ," for disobeying an officer of the law. "

" I am an officer of the law ! ," she shouted as he slapped the handcuffs on her wrists and started reading her her Miranda. " What the fuck are you doing! I'm a cop ! A detective ! My badge is in my wallet ! "
