" Don't be so dramatic, Norland," Arnold retorted. " My cousin knew nothing about what that man did to your brother. She's not connected to him anymore. She is actually dating a police detective now. Fellow called Nate Jacks. Homicide detective. She is very qualified and under her that public school has high test scores. She is looking for a change of pace though. Plus I was thinking her son JT could attend free since she will be headmistress. And she can't be blamed for Skip Sands. "

" And Gerald can not be blamed for Pamela Perkins ! ," Richard practically growled. He could not believe this. For this he was missing a morning of work. " And her son will not be attending free. No other staff members get free tuition for their children. "

Brent Nelson agreed," Yes. That's unreasonable to me as well, Saunders. If she wants her son there let her pay like every other parent. Free tuition is not part of the benefit package. When would she even be starting or willing to start? We would need a seamless transition. The students deserve that. "

Arnold said," Fine. The boy can stay in his regular school. Now , she can start at the beginning of  January. After New Year. His last day would be on Wednesday which is,  as you all well know ,  the last day of the term. Let's put this to a vote. We need to cover our respective asses on this thing. Show the parents we recognize their concerns. Show them we are doing something concrete. If it means getting rid of that man so be it. "

Celeste shook her head. " I suppose but. Why not just move up the assistant headmaster? "

Arnold said," It's better to hire on an outside person. Trust me. You all know I'm right. Look. I know he's a nice man but this is business. We can't afford to lose more parents. Now let's vote. I have other meetings today. Can't waste all day dithering over this."

So with great reluctance from most in the room they set out to take a vote on the termination from his position of headmaster Gerald HighTower from the Hyattsville Barrington Academy campus.

It was seven to three. Seven for removing him. Three for keeping him on ; Richard, Celeste and Alice Crawford.

Arnold then narrowed his eyes at Richard , saying," Now I would like to request another vote with Richard Norland abstaining from it. A vote to remove him as a board member effective immediate. "

Richard narrowed his eyes, thinned his lips and stood up abruptly while leaning on his cane. " You don't need that. I resign. Effective immediately. From now on I am just a parent there. Have a wonderful day. Goodbye. "
