Scott : I can't believe you were in that school protest. Please tell me you are ok ! Alfred , what were you thinking? You could have been hurt.
Alfred: I was fine. I'm not fragile. This is a problem with us even more than your cheating. You treat me like a piece of porcelain. I'm a grown man. I'm thirty six not six.
Alfred: Sometimes I think you just want me back because you don't want to be known as the man who dumped a handicapped man.
Scott: I want you back because I love you. Give us one more chance. Give me one more chance. Please. Go out to dinner with me. Just one dinner. New Year's Eve. It's our favorite holiday. Please. I want to spend it with you.
Alfred: I want to say yes.
Scott: Then say it. Say yes.
Alfred: I can't. I love you. Part of me will always love you, Scott, but I deserve better than you. You hurt me. It hurts knowing I wasn't enough for you. It hurts knowing you see me as less than yourself. I deserve better. Congratulations on your new job. Maybe one day we can be friends again but that's all.
Scott: Is this about that Gerald guy? Are you seeing him now?
Alfred: No. It's about me. I'd rather be alone than hurting and suspicious of you and other men. Goodbye.
Scott : Baby , this is not over. I will get you back.
Alfred: No. You won't.
------------
" I can not believe you were in some sleazy protest, Austin , " Dr. Randall Anderson said sternly as he gathered with his wife , their two adult sons, Angel and his younger brother Darren , and Lyle Peters around the large dining room table in the dining room of their Evergreen Acres mansion. " Actually I can. You've always been one to push boundaries. "
Angel sighed and pushed his salmon fillets around his plate. " I wasn't pushing boundaries, Father. I was standing up for a colleague. Gerald did not deserve to be fired."
" Of course he did," Randall said firmly as he drained his scotch and soda. " Man can't control his own house. How can he possibly run a school? You need to get out of that place anyway. Get back to the hospital where you belong. If you want I can find you another position on a different unit. ICU maybe. Can't be scared of a little gunshot wound. "
Lyle lifted his eyes from his plate of food and nervously pushed back his glasses on his face. " I am proud of Angel. He stood up for what he believed. "
Angel smiled gratefully at his fiance and touched his hand gently, giving it a squeeze. " So did you. "
Randall glared at their locked hands and said," I wasn't talking to you, Mr. Peters. I was talking to my foolish son. "
Aurora Anderson softly whispered," I don't think Mr. Peters meant any harm."
Randall slammed the table hard enough that the dishes and crystal glassware actually rattled. " Shut up, woman. Nobody was talking to you. I was talking to the little fairy man there. "
Angel thinned his lips at his father. " Don't call him that. "
" Why ? That's what he is. So are you. At least he's not as common as the boxer was. I figured you would have grown out of your queer period by now. "
Lyle swallowed hard and kept his head lowered. Angel looked at him and then back at his father, saying," Apologize to him. Now. "
Randall laughed harshly.
Angel repeated ," Apologize to him. Now. He is not a fairy man. He's the man I love. The man I intend to marry on New Year Eve. "
Randall snorted," Don't be ridiculous. Speaking of the so called wedding if you really must do this thing it should be at our church in Potomac. I've made a guest list of all the appropriate people you should invite. "
Aurora whispered ," I think they already chose a place for the wedding. Richard and Nigel's in Bethesda. I think....."
" That queer restaurant? I think not. And I told you to shut up , Aurora ! " Then he slapped her across the face which left a reddened spot on her cheek.
Darren remained silent and continued to eat his food.
Lyle gasped and asked," Are you ok , Mrs. Anderson? "
Angel stood up and tossed down his linen napkin on the table. " Don't hit my mother. And apologize to my fiance. "
Randall shot out," No. Don't like how I run my house get out. And don't come back. "
Angel said sharply," Fine. Lyle, we're leaving. Now. "
