Winston Arnett woke up feeling depressed. It was Christmas. And his life was still a disaster. A Richard Norland created disaster.

He sat up in bed and ran his hands over his handsome solemn face.

He had no job. Well not a job he actually wanted and had trained for. Seven years of school to be disbarred in disgrace and left to a ridiculous life as assistant manager of a vegan restaurant turned LGBTA nightclub. No wonder his father wouldn't talk to him anymore. The very last words the senator had told him were " You are a disgrace and I'm so glad your mother isn't alive to see you now".

So was he, he sighed.

Fuck Christmas.

He had decided to return to sleep until New Year Day when the door opened and in strode Joe Jacobs holding a wicker tray.

A tray ?

Food ?

Joe had actually cooked? Joe ? He could cook? Had he died in his sleep last night or something?

" Merry Christmas, " Joe said cheerily as he plopped the tray down on his lap. On it was a rather burnt at the edges Santa Claus shaped pancake next to a glass of orange juice and a banana.

Winston wanted to laugh but he also wanted to cry his heart out. Joe Jacobs was the most selfish self centered self absorbed man in the world yet ..... he had made him breakfast in bed. On Christmas. He loved this man , he realized with a sharp pang to his heart. He really did. He was so very screwed.

He looked at him and couldn't help smiling back at him. " Merry Christmas to you too , Joe. "
