A for Aquarium

Heavy rain patters against the windows on the dark summer day.

"Oh, come on, not again," I groan, sitting on my bed and staring at the grey clouds over the sky. Alex and I originally planned on going to the beach and collecting shells, swimming and tanning in the sun.

But the weather was not on our side. For four days straight it has rained and rained and rained. Not very ideal for summer. But, we survived by baking cookies, watching films and being lazy. We couldn't take it anymore; we had to leave the house.

"Alex," I turn and whisper while gently shaking him awake, "we're gonna have to cancel beach day."

He groans, his eyes still shut: "Again?"

I nod: "Again."

We were both frustrated. Alex doesn't get many days off and even when he does, they're usually not long enough for us to enjoy summer weather at a beach. Summer is incredibly important to us and it's essential that we spend time with one another.

My job doesn't permit me to go to all of his Grands Prix, so our being together is something we both cherish.

"What are we gonna do?" he asks, tucking his arms around the pillow his head is resting on. I sigh, lying down next to him and grab my phone. While scrolling to find something indoors and less crowded, I come across a website that spikes my interest.

"Alex," I say, him groaning as an answer, "I found something you might like."

He groans again and I playfully pinch the skin on his torso, making him slightly jump. I chuckle, which makes him turn around and lean his head on my chest, looking up at my phone. It takes a while for his eyes to adjust to the light so he can read it, but as soon as he does, his eyes light up and he smiles.

"Yes," he says, "yes, yes, yes."

I smile: "It's about an hour away from here by car, so we can drive there and back easily."

Alex hugs me, closing his eyes again: "Do we have to go now, though? Can't we sleep like another hour or so?"

I roll my eyes: "No, come on, they open in an hour we can get there early and avoid the big crowds of the afternoon."

I slip away from his grip earning a sad groan in response and make my way to the bathroom to get ready to go to the aquarium. From what I read it's a pretty large one, with lots of different marine species and it's mostly dark- which will help in terms of staying anonymous.

After brushing my teeth and hair, I head back to the bedroom to change- only to find Alex fast asleep on the bed.

"Oy!" I grab a pillow and throw it straight against his head, waking him with a slam, "Get up, lazy!"

I laugh, grab comfortable clothing and slip into my favourite shoes. Alex finally gets up, slumbering to the bathroom. I grin, setting aside an outfit for him, and head to the kitchen to make two cups of coffee. I grab two bagels and put them in a paper bag.

As soon as Alex is ready, we leave the apartment and get into the car. He pulls out of the garage as I put the address in the GPS.
