H for Horseback Riding
"All right," he said, turning off the car's engine, "keep 'em closed."
I couldn't help but chuckle excitedly as I kept my eyes shut, waiting and listening. It was quiet except for the sounds Daniel made next to me as he took off his seat belt and released mine, opening the car door and getting out.
Daniel closed his car door and a few moments later the passenger door opened and his hand planted itself on my shoulder.
"C'mon," he said, helping me out. I stepped onto the ground and felt the gravel press against my cowboy boots.
Daniel had begged me to wear them. He said they were an essential part of where we were going and that if I didn't wear them he'd cancel what he was preparing.
He had told me that because it was date night, he would organise something nice for us to do. I was excited to see what he had planned, but he wouldn't give me any clues.
He gave me his hand and I grabbed it, intertwining our fingers, holding him close as we walked. It was warm; the sun was shining on my face, warming my cheeks.
I breathed in the fresh air after being in the city for weeks and felt happiness.
I couldn't see it, but he smiled at me, his cheeks a little red as he felt nothing but love. He watched my eyelashes and curled-up lips, the little frown between my eyebrows and the gentle flow of my hair in the wind.
His large cowboy hat sat comfortably on his head, adding to the character. However, since he had been wearing it for the past week, it wasn't anything new for me, so it didn't raise any suspicion.
I think it was the smell that gave it away.
Having dated Daniel for some months already, it was constantly exciting and thrilling, with things going on like F1, visiting him at the paddock, and watching the races. But now, outside of F1, it had been completely different. He was softer, less of an extrovert but showed his mellow side.
He was trying to find a place to settle, a place to lead a slower life, and he knew who he was going to do it with.
As soon as I heard the neigh, I knew where I was. I squeezed Daniel's hand and grinned, making him laugh.
"You know where we are, don't you?" he laughed. Daniel had been waiting to bring me back here after four months.
I kept my eyes shut as I nodded: "Yep."
He pulled me with him and sped up, making me have to basically sprint after him with my eyes closed.
We entered what I could only assume was the horse stable. The smell was one indicator, yes, but their sweet sounds warmed my heart more than anything.
"Daniel," I tugged on his arm. He chuckled, squeezing my hand and letting it go to stand behind me and guide me by holding onto my shoulders.
He gently pushed me further into the barn, towards the back. I felt my heartbeat accelerate as we moved.
"Come on, let me see," I begged Daniel, but he only laughed.
"Be patient, honey," he whispered in my ear, causing my cheeks to fade to a scarlet.
Before I knew it, we stopped walking and Daniel turned me to face a stable. I heard the quiet sounds of the horse in front of me.
Hold on. I hear two horses. And it sounds-
"Open 'em," Daniel said and I immediately did.
And in front of me stood nothing else but a light brown foal.
"Aww, gosh," I gasped, getting closer. I couldn't hold back my smile as I went towards the bars and immediately stuck my hand through to try and pet the little baby.
Daniel couldn't help but smile at what he was seeing. At my gentleness with such a young being.
He watched me pet the foal with nothing but love and knew this was it. The moment he needed to prove his already strong argument that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. That he wanted to see me hold his children with the love I was holding the foal with.
"Y/n," he said, catching my attention. I looked up at him, turning away from the stables.
I smiled curiously as he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around my waist. His smile was soft; not the one we're all used to seeing.
"I love you," he spoke quietly. I grinned at his words and wrapped my arms around his neck, careful not to mess up the perfectly placed cowboy hat.
"I love you, too, Daniel."
He seemed happier than I had ever seen him, more fulfilled and content with where his life was going. I pressed my forehead against his as we shared a moment of silent peace.
It didn't matter that F1 wasn't at the centre of his life anymore, because we had each other.
And that's all we'd ever need.

Hello my lovelies,
I hope you're all doing well!
Yes, this one has a little sad touch, but I think we can all agree that Daniel had a good run.
Let's get on with the last 5 races of the season!!
The battle is tight- and I'm sure everyone is on the edge of their seat right now.
Here's to exciting races and (possibly) a new World Champion!
See you soon,
x
Brooke
P.S. For any 1D fans out there; I am grieving with you. I grew up with the band, they defined my childhood. He didn't have to go so soon. Rest in Peace, dear Liam. I'll miss you.
