J is for Jazz Club
Lights flashed around the car as we approached the club. We had tried to get there quietly by getting a normal New York cab and telling no one where we were going.
However, somehow, it seemed like the whole of New York knew we were going there. I got nervous, fiddling with my rings.
Lewis noticed it and grabbed my hand, intertwining our hands: "Hey."
I looked up at him and was met with his soft smile, instantly calming me down. Something about it was simply soothing; an inexplicable feeling of peace.
"You okay?" he asked, gently caressing the back of my hand.
I nodded: "I am now."
He smiled, leaning down and pressing a kiss against my cheek. He held me close for the remainder of the car ride until the taxi driver stopped.
The man looked back at us, visibly excited to have driven us here. Lewis leaned forward and paid the guy generously: "Keep the change my friend, thank you for bringing us here safely."
He nodded: "Of course. Thank you, Mr. Hamilton."
His smile was glowing; I couldn't help but feel happy about the impact Lewis has on people. About the positive impact he has. On practically anyone and everyone.
He took a deep breath looking into my eyes: "You've got this. Just keep holding my hand, all right?"
I nodded. He frowned at me: "I need words, love."
"Yes," I responded, "I trust you."
He smiled and opened the car door, resulting in ever more flashing lights and shouts. He stood and smiled at the fans, adjusting his suit and waving, before turning back towards the car and offering his hand for me.
I climbed out of the car and the flashes accelerated again. Lewis winked at me. He had told me that his fans loved me just as much as they loved him. I hadn't believed him.
I wrapped my arm around his as we walked straight into the club, not stopping anywhere. If we had, it would've taken hours until we'd have been able to go in.
Inside, the atmosphere completely transformed. Behind strong doors, we took stairs to a lower and quiet level. It was dark; like any jazz club. And it felt comfortably like home.
It wasn't full, adding to our privacy. We were immediately received and our coats were hung for us. The waiter led us to a private booth facing the stage on the club's side.
The night's Jazz theme was Love. Lewis had wanted to come here for so long, and when he found out it would be a romantic Jazz night, he immediately bought the tickets for the two of us.
We sat close to one another as we looked through the drink menu. Now, since neither of us was drinking alcohol, mainly because of F1, our eyes were set on the list of mocktails.
"Y/n, you can get something alcoholic if you want to, you know that, right?" Lewis squeezed my arm with love.
I nodded: "I know. But I want to join you. And this way, we can get two drinks and take turns."
I grinned at him, making him shake his head with a smile: "You are incredible, you know that?"
I smiled: "In what way?"
Lewis nodded, searching for the deeper meaning behind my question. He frowned, taking his time to think before wrapping an arm around me to answer.
"You're my definition of peace. You're kind to everyone you meet, smile all the time even when the cameras are blinding," he was serious but I couldn't help smiling at his words, "You're stubborn, but confident, you know what you want and when you want it. And you go after the things you want. But you also help others accomplish their dreams and that to me is truly wonderful."
I was speechless. I stared into his eyes and saw the world.
Lewis leaned forward and gently pecked my lips. "I love you," he whispered.
I pressed my forehead against him, closing my eyes. His hands rested on mine, which were held up against his cheeks.
"I love your purity. Your kindness. The way strangers' faces light up with joy when you smile at them. The love you spread all over the world," I whispered.
Lewis smiled, pulling back to look into my eyes. He spoke nothing, but I understood everything.
We went back to choosing two mocktails and ordered. While we waited for the performance to begin, we leaned back into the corner of our booth, with me lying against his chest.
He caressed my arm gently and we had a quiet conversation. He was asking me about what I wanted to do the next summer when the performers were announced.
We leaned forward onto the table with the little lamp on it, listening closely to the music. Each sound they made felt sent from heaven.
Conveniently, the first song they played was (I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons by Nat King Cole.
I smiled at Lewis while the song played and he returned the favour. We looked at each other with nothing but love.
It was the perfect night. Private, intimate, peaceful, and full of music.
What more could you ask for?
*****
Oh, the sweetness of love...
My darlings, if you have the chance, please listen to the song by Nat King Cole. That man is a genius when it comes to singing about love.
And I mean, imagine sitting next to Lewis in a Jazz club when he only has eyes for you??
See you soon, lovelies,
x
Brooke
