G for Go-Karting

My heart pounded as I heard the roar of his approaching engine. I tried to keep focus, making sure I followed the racing line to the centimetre.

But I couldn't help but feel intimidated by him. Which was normal, but I had to prove to myself that could do it.

That I could win a Go-Kart race against Lando Norris.

A few tight-cut corners and quick straights brought him closer to me than ever before, accelerating my pulse and intensifying my adrenaline.

"Come on," I whispered to myself, driving as quickly as possible. I felt the blood coursing through my veins, the low thump of my heart beating.

"Finish this," I pushed myself towards the last few corners of the track. Max, Lando's best friend, was waving the checkered flag at the finish line, awaiting the winner.

I lowered the gas pedal to the max, accelerating like a madman. But I could feel it. I could feel him creeping up behind me to catch up.

As he joined me by my side, we drove onto the last straight, right towards the finish line.

Suddenly everything slowed down and I could hear my heavy breaths, my exhausted heartbeat, and the shouts coming from the other members of Quadrant standing next to Max.

I turned to look at Lando, realising he had already been watching me. He seemed incredibly focused like he did when he raced in F1. It was a matter of tenths, hundredths of a second, even.

And then it went back to full speed. We raced over the finish line, continuing for some time to slow down our karts and come to a full stop.

The team members, along with the camera crew, came over to where Lando and I were getting out of our karts and cheered super loudly.

They jumped up and down, running towards me with gigantic smiles on their faces. When I realised what that meant I excitedly ran towards them and got into the major group hug they had started.

"YES! WE FINALLY BEAT LANDO!!!" They shouted, shaking the ground.

As we celebrated, I felt undoubtedly proud of myself and the team. It was a challenge to beat Lando at anything having to do with F1, and usually, only Max or Ria had a chance to get close.

After a celebratory talk with the camera and the fans on the other side, Max and the team took the live session inside for further talks while Lando and I could have some time to relax.

I found him in the lounge of the track, sitting tiredly on the sofa with his legs stretched and shoes thrown on the floor.

I smiled at him as he sat there with his eyes closed, taking deep breaths. I walked towards him as quietly as possible and snapped a few pics I would definitely turn into stickers for the group chat later.

After staring at him for another while, I decided to play dirty and lowered my face right next to his ear.

"Boo," I said, and without a doubt, Lando jumped like a five-year-old.

"Shit!" he screamed, placing a hand on his hyperventilating chest, "Fucking hell, Y/n."

I grinned as I walked over and sat next to him. He was staring at me like I had attempted to murder him while I smiled, innocently.

"Do you realise," I began, grinning, "that I beat you today?"

He rolled his eyes but couldn't contain a laugh: "No shit, Sherlock. It's not like nobody rubbed into my face innit?"

I laughed at his expressions, which made him chuckle too.

"And," I went on, "this time, you didn't have to let me win."

He shrugged, getting up and walking towards a snack table with water bottles to grab one: "True, but that doesn't mean anything."

I scoffed: "Right. Because if you had won you wouldn't have rubbed it in my face like you always do."

He shook his head: "Of course not. I'm actually a decent human being."

I raised my eyebrows at him.

"What?" he asked defensively, "I am!"

He smirked at me, turning back towards the snack table. I got up from the sofa, stepping towards Lando.

I crossed my arms and waited for him to turn back towards me. Instead, he said this:

"Waiting for something, my love?" he teased. I immediately felt my heart flutter and my cheeks flushed a deep red.

I had had a crush on Lando for a while now. But I hadn't told anyone. Well, except Ria. But she found out herself, really. She said it was, quote-unquote: 'Extremely obvious'.

Maybe he had found out. Maybe he was waiting for the perfect moment to do something about it. To tease me, make fun of me. Or maybe he was reacting the way he felt. What if he liked me too?

"Y/n?" I was pulled out of my thoughts to see Lando looking down at me, turned towards me and standing awfully close.

"You all right?" he asked, gazing into my eyes.

I could only nod.

"No comeback now, huh?" he chuckled.

I shook my head.

"That's all right. Although I didn't think that was all it was going to take for you to be quiet."

Lando got quieter now; he looked down at me, my lips and eyes.

"There was something else I had planned," he whispered, hypnotised by what I could only guess was me.

"What's that?" I asked quietly, earning a smile from him.

He raised his hand to gently pull my chin towards him, joining our lips into a soft kiss. I closed my eyes and felt the warm touch cover me with happiness and relief.

As he kissed me, I understood what he meant. Lando had known for a while. Ria had probably told him.

And he felt the same way.

My heart pounded with happiness at the thought of him being in love with me. I pushed it away to come back to reality and wrapped my arms around his neck, holding his cheek with one hand, while his slithered to my back, holding me in his embrace.

We were both equally content that this was happening, knowing that no one else knew. It felt comforting to have a secret only we share.

I pulled back to look into his eyes and he smiled: "This is what I had planned."

I grinned: "It was a mighty good plan, then."

He laughed, hugging me tightly.

"Oh, and I definitely let you win."

"Lando!"
