Dear Diary...
...Riding a horse is fun, but riding with Y/n is even better.
You dirty mind. I mean, going out for a ride, on a horse, alongside Y/n.
Jeez. Get your head out of the gutter.
Anyway, we went up to the farm last weekend, and she fell in love with the horses. Me? I fell in love with her, watching her take care of the horses with such care.
We've been friends for many years now, and after begging me to take her to visit the farm, I finally did.
She made me pinky promise to her that I'd take her before she turned 30, which is still a while away, but it seemed so impossible that I'd ever take her, so the promise was extended.
Now, however, it's just the two of us. There were supposed to be two friends with us, but both cancelled due to tight work schedules, so it's just us.
I loved that.
Of course, Y/n was disappointed, because there were many group activities planned for the four of us, but I'm glad.
Because now I get to show her around the farm, and she gets to choose whatever she wants to do.
Mainly, it's going out for rides to see the sunrise and the sunset. We usually wake up super early for those, around 4:30, go directly to the stalls to find the horses, and take them out on a nice, long walk along a lake in proximity to the farm.
After that, the horses are given time to rest all day before we go out for the same ride in the evening to watch the sunset.
They're well taken care of, and Y/n loves them.
The other day, when we woke up early, she quietly walked out of her room, already wearing her gear. She was zipping up her pullover because it was quite chilly on those mornings.
Her hair was in a beautiful braid, and I needed a couple of seconds to adjust before being able to continue.
But because we didn't want to wake anybody else, we'd stay silent while inside the house. Some food had already been prepared the night before, and we only heated some water to make our teas and coffees.
Then, it was straight out to the stalls, prepping the horses, and finally, around 5 am, leaving the farm and heading in the direction of the lake.
That's when we finally spoke, and it was usually me, with, usually, the same question:
"How did you sleep?"
Her answer was usually: "Great! Although I could use a couple more hours.", which was followed by a grin.
Only this time, she smiled at me and said, "It was a little lonely."
I frowned: "Lonely?"
"Yeah," she continued as the horses' hooves clacked onto the ground, "I could have used a companion to keep me warm."
My heart dropped. Was she flirting with me? She'd never spoken to me like that before, but I was all for it.
But before I could say anything, Y/n continued: "Chilly wasn't with me last night. He hung out by the fireplace all night."
That's when it hit me. She'd been talking about the farm dog, Chilly. He loves her almost as much as I love Y/n.
I laughed: "Yeah, that's true. Without Chilly it feels unnatural."
She smiled, and I fell in love: "Exactly. You get me, Danny."
I sighed into the sunrise.
I really do.
