Outside the apartment building,
Roppongi,
Nighttime..Second Person's POV
You turned your attention to Rindou, who stood across from you, his gaze sharp and irritated. Rui shifted uneasily under his intense stare. His voice cut through the tension, rough and biting, as he demanded, "What the fuck are you doing here, Rui?"
Rui flinched at his words, the sudden harshness startling her. You felt her small hand clutching tightly at your sleeve, her fingers trembling. Her lips quivered as she struggled to keep her composure, but you could see the tears welling up in her eyes. It was clear she was on the verge of breaking down.
Your heart ached as you watched Rui shrink under Rindou's harsh gaze. The way she clung to you, trembling and on the verge of tears, was all too familiar. It reminded you of a time when you were the one who cowered in fear-when Shu, your adopted eldest brother, would raise his voice at you. Back then, you would always clutch onto Subaru for comfort, seeking refuge from the storm of your brother's anger.
The memory sent a wave of nausea through you, as if you were reliving that bitter moment all over again. Except now, the roles had changed. Instead of being the frightened child, you were the one being clung to, the one offering comfort and safe space. The realization twisted in your gut, making you feel as though the past had somehow bled into the present, trapping you in a cruel cycle.
"R-Rin-nii.. I.. I just-"
Rindou suddenly grasped your wrist and yanked you away from Rui. Rui gasped loudly, panic surged in her system as she realized her only safe space was snatched away in an instant.
"Fucking go back to where you come from, Never show your face in front of me again!" Rindou seethed at his little sister. Tears rolled down Rui's face. She reached out to hold Rindou's hand, but the older brother swatted her hand away. Rui sobbed sorrowfully.
Seeing Rui's state, your heart broke to thousands pieces. You stared at Rindou's face, disappointment evident in your gaze. You couldn't believe this sight- Rindou being mean to his younger sister.
You aggravatingly pulled your hands out of his grip, making your way toward Rui. You gently guided the teenage girl into your arms, providing her the comforts and solace she desperately craved for; something that she never experienced with her older brothers.
Rui was touched, her heart felt your warm kindness. Even though you and her barely knew each other, you chose to be on her side. Rui sobbed harder, clutching the back of your clothes.
"(Y/n)," Rindou sternly uttered your name as a warning. You didn't spare a glance at the bespectacled Haitani. "Are you insane? Telling a young girl to go back on her own is like walking into a deathtrap!" Your anger thundered across the street. Rindou flinched slightly.
"She got herself here just fine. She can go home in one piece." Rindou reasoned heartlessly, discarding the issue of Rui's safety.
"Fucking heartless," you couldn't hold back your fury anymore. Ignoring Rindou, you ruffled the young girl's hair. She lifted her head up, staring at you with her teary eyes. You wanted to cry with her, yet you refrained yourself.
