Yuto's penthouse..

Yuto gripped the edge of the sink, his fingers tightening against the cool metal as his mind replayed Y/n’s words.

"Kiryu-gumi is coming after me."

It didn't make sense. Why would they be after her?

His thoughts were abruptly cut short by the vibration of his phone. He breathed out a deep sigh, pulled it out, and glanced at the caller ID.

Renzou. His father.

Suppressing a groan, Yuto clicked to answer. "Hello?"

"Yuto," Renzou called firmly, no greeting at all. "The child. Is she with you?"

Yuto clenched his jaw. Of course he knew. He considered lying but knew it was pointless. "Yeah."

A hum from the other end was heard. "I see. Then I want to meet my grandchild."

Yuto straightened, shaking his head. Not now. Not like this. He turned away from the sink, running a hand through his hair. "It’s not the right time," he countered, keeping his voice firm. "She’s in a miserable state."

"Miserable state?" Renzou repeated, as if testing the words on his tongue. "Why are you keeping my only granddaughter away from me?"

"How did you even know she was with me?"

"Takumi told me."

Yuto clicked his tongue, his teeth grinding together.

Fucking snitch.

Yuto huffed out a sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I’m not trying to stop you from seeing her,” he muttered, keeping his voice calm. “But I’m not lying about her condition either. She’s miserable right now—she’s dealing with a fallout with her adoptive family.”

Silence. Then, a low chuckle rumbled through the receiver.

Perfect,” Renzou mused. “The perfect opportunity to finally bring the girl back where she belongs—her real family.”

I still can’t believe Minato handed custody over to some stranger instead of us. If it is some random, powerless man, we could have the case in court. Such a shame the man was an important government minister,” Renzou scoffed. “What a joke. He actually chose a man with power knowing it would be difficult at our end.”

Yuto was unwilling to add anything. He knew better than to argue when his father was in one of his moods.

Since you failed to provide a proper heir for the family, she’s a perfect option.” Renzou’s voice was filled with conviction, as if this was all a matter of fate. “Not to mention, her being a girl. Our family is blessed by God.”
