Next day, Haitanis' apartment..
Second Person's POV
The moment you stepped into the Haitanis' apartment, you knew what awaited you-a piercing glare from Ran. His eyes locked on you with the kind of resentment reserved for the worst kind of betrayal, as though your mere presence was an affront to his very existence.
You tried to speak to him, sitting stiffly on the couch, but he responded with a loud grunt, turning his back before retreating to his bedroom without a word. Rindou merely shook his head, already resigned to the futility of attempting to console his brother.
This was yours to handle alone.
"Ran, please-"
"Hmph."
"I'm sorry, I know I promised to come back, but Kanji's ma insisted I stay over. I couldn't just say no to her."
"Traitor."
"Ran..."
"I hate you."
"I bought Mont Blanc for you."
"I hate your Mont Blanc."
You sighed in defeat, rubbing your temples. If his favorite dessert wasn't enough to win him over, what could?
"I fell asleep on the damn couch waiting for you," Ran muttered, the bitterness in his voice unmistakable.
"I'm really sorry, Ran. I told Rindou about Kanji's mom-"
"Sorry doesn't fix it. You should've told me right away."
"You were asleep. If Rindou had woken you up, you'd have kicked his ass."
Ran couldn't deny the truth of your explanation. But, in true Ran fashion, admitting that was not something he was about to do.
Instead, he stubbornly kept up his sulking. Without a word, he pulled the blanket over his head as if it could shield him from the conversation-and from you. His childish response was both exasperating and strangely endearing.
You let out another sigh, his silent tantrum adding to your growing frustration. You leaned against the frame.
"Ran, I can't fix this if you're going to hide under the blanket," you said, trying to keep your tone calm despite your weariness.
A muffled "Hmph" came from the pile of blankets.
You crossed your arms, a faint smile tugging at the corner of your lips. You knew his moods well, and as infuriating as his stubbornness could be, it was all part of Ran.
"I'll leave you alone if that's what you want," you said, turning to go.
As soon as you mentioned leaving him alone, Ran felt a pang of regret. He didn't want space, not really.
