Several days later,
Sakamaki's residence...

(Y/n)'s POV

"Why are you going to your brothers' house? We can help you get ready.."

"You guys got your own party to attend. Besides, my brothers have been nagging me to visit."

"..okay. See you tomorrow then."

I felt like I just betrayed Ran and Rindou..Ran especially.

Ever since that encounter with his family, he had never been the same. He was still the same unhinged, cheerful Ran. But something was off with him after that.

I decided to stay over at my brothers' place on the day of the party, just to brace myself for the worst. I did consider not to go to the party, but I didn't have the heart to disappoint Rui.

In the end..I made up my mind to attend. Whatever will unfold tonight, I have to be ready and suck it up. I did sign up for this.

Ayato-nii's fingers worked gently through my hair, the brush sliding in slow, practiced strokes. I'd barely noticed when he started, already lost in my thoughts, staring into the empty void. "What's on your mind?" he asked.

The question jolted me, pulling me back to the moment. I blinked, my eyes focusing on his face reflected in the mirror in front of us. His expression was calm, but his eyes held a hint of curiosity, like he'd caught me doing something out of the ordinary.

"Oh, um..." I stammered. I hadn't realized I'd spaced out so much. "Nothing, really. Just... thinking."

He chuckled, continuing to style my hair. "Thinking about what, though?" I bit my lip, hesitating.

Ayato-nii set the brush down and gave my reflection a knowing look. "You've been acting strange ever since you came back. Spacing out, looking lost. You sure nothing's on your mind?"

Caught again. I sighed, finally giving in. "It's just... I got invited to this party by this girl. I know it'd mean a lot to her if I showed up."

He nodded, encouraging me to go on.

"But... my friends." I glanced away from the mirror. "They're not exactly fans of hers, and I just... I feel like I'm betraying them by even considering it. But if I don't go, I'll hurt her feelings." I clenched my hands together, the words spilling out. "No matter what choices I make, I will end up hurting either her or them."

There was silence. Then, he rested a hand on my shoulder. "I get it. You're just too kind, (Y/n). But it's okay to make choices that feel right for you, even if they're hard. It doesn't mean you're choosing one over the other."

I felt my chest loosen, the tension slipping away just a little. Maybe... maybe he was right.

I choose what's right for me.
