POV: Carmine
"When is Evane getting here?" Max whines.
Everyone agreed that they wouldn't get food until everyone was here, and that means everyone is now waiting for Evane.
My youngest child who is normally on time, if not early, is now the latest one. It's probably because of that mate of hers. My only child to have a mate, yet that mate is worse than any of the other trash my other children decided to date.
Her mate can barely be classified as a mate. The only reason she got back with my precious baby was probably because of her money, not because of love.
I don't know why Evane bothered trying to defend that girl. To me it was clear that she didn't give my child the affection she deserves. If they're like that in private then I know my child isn't going to have a satisfying relationship.
The issue is that the girl she brought is her mate, so it'll be difficult to convince Evane that she isn't right for her. I just need to convince Evane to leave that girl and move on until that human dies and their mate bond will be broken.
"Evane, you're finally here," Connor groans.
"Where's Addie?" Connor's girlfriend questions.
"She didn't want to come," Evane sighs as she removes her shoes. "I wonder why." My youngest child glares at me with the most hatred I've ever seen her express through her facial expression.
She's seriously still angry with me. It was six months ago, and her mate deserved it.
Ignoring Evane's glare, I pat the only empty seat in the living room, which is next to me, but she blatantly ignores my offer, preferring to drag over one of the chairs from the dining table and sit on the complete opposite side of the living room from me. She refuses to even look in my direction.
"Evane-"
"I'm not talking to you," she interrupts, folding her arms over her chest, keeping her head turned away from me.
"Sweetheart, please look at me," I request, trying my best to be sweet with her despite my patience already running thin since I know she is stubborn. She got that from her father.
Her expression remains cold as she keeps her face intentionally turned away from me, deciding to start talking to her brothers instead. She's blatantly ignoring me and it's infuriating.
Evane was never the kind of child to throw a tantrum like my other children did. While the others threw things or screamed and cried, she would always fall silent and choose to ignore me and anything I'd do to get her to look at me.
Is she seriously still upset about what I said about her mate?
That was six months ago.
"Evane, why are you so upset with me?"
Her head swivels like an owl to glare at me, attempting to pierce through me. One of her brows arch at me, and she takes a deep breath when I repeat my question.
"If you weren't my mother I would have already plunged a wooden stake through your fucking heart for what you said," she hisses at me with more spite than I've ever heard from my youngest's mouth.
"What did I say?"
Out of the corner of my eye I see Connor smack his forehead with his palm, definitely aware of what Evane's referring to. I have an idea but I want to hear her say it.
