her apartment

POV: Evane

It didn't take me long to get to Addie's apartment building and bolt up to her apartment as fast as my legs would let me go.

I knock on the door, waiting a whole minute for her to answer but she doesn't. I knock again, calling out her name this time but she still doesn't respond.

I know she's in there though.

Her scent is too strong for her not to be.

After listening out for a minute I manage to hear what must be Bambi scurrying around before starting to scratch at the door. I manage to hear him whimpering, surprised that Addie isn't doting on him to get him to stop.

Something's wrong. This really isn't right.

I knock one more time, calling for her and requesting that she answers the door just to show me that she's somewhat okay. Even after leaving her plenty of time to answer the door, I'm still stood outside getting more concerned for her the longer I wait.

Despite not wanting to, I pull out the spare key I have to her apartment, unlocking the door and slipping in so that Bambi can't escape before I close the door behind me.

Her apartment is decorated beautifully.

I haven't seen it since she moved in and all the walls were still white and there was no furniture at all. Now I'm seeing it with pastel wall colours and light wood furniture. Everything looks so comfortable and cosy.

I suppose this is her style of decoration, so I guess how I'd decorated her room wasn't quite correct. Still nice and I hope she liked it, but nowhere near how lovely her decorations are here.

The variety of plants that I presume are pet-safe are very nice and make the whole place seem so fresh.

I'm distracted from admiring her apartment as Bambi grabs the bottom of my trouser leg in his teeth, roughly pulling at it like he's playing tug-of-war.

When I scold him for it, he releases the fabric and scampers forward, spinning around. Catching on that he wants me to follow and knowing his skill of finding where Addie goes, I trail behind him as he goes up to the only door that's almost completely closed.

It's open just enough that he can slip in and I can see how dark it is inside, but not enough that I can actually see inside.

Bambi pushes the door open for me with his paws before scurrying over to the bed and jumping up with ease. He nudges the lump under the sheets with his nose, getting brushed off almost immediately, nearly knocking him off the bed.

He whimpers, his tail down between his legs as he hops off the bed and lays down on the floor looking very dejected.

"Addie? Are you okay?" I tentatively ask, keeping my voice low as I approach her as she lays in bed.

At hearing my voice I see her whole body tenses under the sheets, listening out for me to say anything else. I gently perch on the edge of her bed, wanting to give her some space but seeing her again is making me want to get so much closer than I am.

"I know that you probably don't want to see me yet, but everyone is worried about you," I softly mutter, restraining myself from petting her hair. "Are you feeling okay-"

Before I can register what's happening, Addie has flung herself at me, her arms wrapping around me and she starts sobbing into my shoulder. I gently wrap my arms around her and return her hug, rubbing her back until her breathing shudders less and her crying is a little softer.
