POV: Adeline
I made up my mind.
I was done living with Connor and Mia. They're lovely and all, but I've started to rely on them too much as well. I need to start doing more things on my own and the only way I can think to do that is by living somewhere on my own.
Sure it's not full independence since Evane will be paying for the rent and all the bills for a whole year, but I will be in charge of my own daily schedule and cooking and feeding myself, which is more than I did at Connor and Mia's.
At their's I only had to bathe myself and brush my teeth. Connor did the cooking and most of the cleaning, and Mia was very good at consistently waking me up at a certain time, usually because she wanted someone to talk to in the morning and Connor goes to work really early.
Mia has been helping me decide how to decorate my new place and finding furniture and paint colours for the walls. I was surprised when I found out that the apartment building actually allowed for tenants to paint the walls inside their apartments.
I don't know what colours I want yet but I know I want a lot of light colours. Evane's house was so bland and devoid of colour that I now crave colour almost everywhere.
Black and white is not allowed in my house. It's too boring.
I hold another set of pastel paint swatches against the wall, checking them in the natural morning light, eliminating a few that really don't look good. I'm left with a pale blue, pastel green and a peachy pink.
"What do you think?" I ask Mia over my shoulder.
"Not the peach since it'll match the curtains too much," she immediately decides. "The blue is nice. The green might match too much with all the plants. Really it depends on whether you want it to be an accent wall or to cover all the walls."
"I kind of want to paint the whole room whatever colour I choose. I was thinking this green in here and the blue in one of the bedrooms."
"Keep the office white. The blue can go in your bedroom, but I thought green was your favourite colour?"
"It is. But Evane kept me in a green bedroom so I don't really want to replicate that in any way. Plus, I like this shade of blue."
I have a very specific idea of what I want to do for my bedroom walls. I want to do those panel walls that use white trim to make the walls more detailed and look really elegant. Connor agreed to help me measure it all and put up the trims to make it once I've decided on a wall colour.
Every other decoration will depend on the colour of the walls. Once I've decided that I can actually start putting the furniture in and properly move in. I've been sleeping on a mattress on the floor for the past two weeks while I've tried to decide.
"Yeah. Green in the living room, blue in the bedroom," I finalise.
"Great," Mia groans. "Now can we go get some takeaway? I'm starving!"
She's been whining the whole time and laying on the floor pretending to be a corpse, complaining that she's starving. I had promised to buy her whatever takeaway she wanted as thanks for helping me but I've taken so long to decide on the colours that I think she gave up hope a while ago.
"Fine. We can order the paint tomorrow."
"Hooray. Let's go!"
She basically drags me out of the door, barely giving me the time to grab my keys and purse before being pulled outside and towards her car.
