Gabriel Agrest opened his eyes as the bright sunlight began to blind him. He looked around in confusion. Where was he? What had happened? The pain in his head was pounding at him like several jackhammers. The tall man tried to get up from the chair, but he immediately felt dizzy and fell to the floor. Breathing heavily, Gabriel held on to the armrest and tried to get up. He couldn't really remember what had happened a short while ago. But apparently he was at home. But where were Adrien and Nathalie? The man finally managed to sit down on the chair when someone rushed over in alarm. At first Gabriel thought it was Nathalie, but... the clothes were completely different. The voice that sounded blurry in his ears wasn't Nathalie's either... no, it was... The person bent down and Gabriel was finally able to look into her face. Immediately his heart began to beat faster, the blood pumped through his veins, his lungs expanded, he felt the air flowing out of them. This couldn't... it... couldn't be true... could it? But it was real. Her voice. Her perfume. Her eyes.
"Emelie," he gasped. Gabriel tried to get up, but he couldn't. "Stay lying down, gently, gently, darling," the blonde woman calmed him. Carefully she handed him his glasses. "Emelie... it's you... it's really you... you... you're alive," he breathed, his hands began to shake. He wanted to hug her, he wanted to feel her, he would never let her go again! "Emelie, darling! You're back!" he cried out of breath. Emelie Agrest looked at her husband for a moment, confused. "What are you saying? Of course I'm alive, silly. Are you really okay? Do you want a doctor after all?" she replied with a gentle smile, her beautiful green eyes resting on him. It was really her. He still couldn't believe it. Emelie squeezed his hand, he felt her warmth. "No... I'm fine... thank you," he replied and hugged her. "Oh Gabriel, you worry too much," she interjected and stood up. She filled him a glass of water and handed it to him. Gabriel drank a few sips thirstily. "Does your head still hurt, darling?" she wanted to know. Gabriel nodded slightly. She shook her head worriedly. Her long, blonde hair was thick and braided into a long braid.
Her white suit shimmered in the light of the sun as if she herself were a bright star and her soft, well-groomed skin just begged to be touched. How long Gabriel had waited for this, how long he had missed her! And now... now she was standing in front of him... and smiling at him. "The fall down the stairs didn't do you any good, are you sure you don't want a doctor?" Emelie asked, her brooch shining conspicuously. Her wedding ring on her hand completed her perfect outfit. Everything about her was perfect, just everything. "I fell down the stairs?" Gabriel wondered, he couldn't remember falling down the stairs. Emelie smiled worriedly.
"Of course, you tripped, but if you want, I can get the doctor. I don't want you to have a concussion," she answered warmly. Gabriel said no. "I only want you. I want to be with you, Emelie," a small tear gathered at the edge of her eye. Emelie. My dearest Emelie. "Oh Gabriel, you're so romantic," she giggled. She walked to the window and let down the curtains. "So that the light doesn't hit your eyes, do you want to eat something? You are probably-", Emelie wanted to say, but Gabriel had stood up and hugged her, his heart pounding against his ribs, tears running down his cheeks.
"Emelie", he gasped. "I missed you so much", he whispered sadly. Emelie wordlessly replied and hugged him. For a few minutes they just stood there, enjoying the warmth, the feelings that bubbled up from them. Images flashed through Gabriel's mind. He would never let her go again. He had fought for her for so long, he would not lose Emelie under any circumstances. Never. Never again. "I love you too, Gabriel... I", Emelie hesitated, she was confused, but it was probably because of Gabriel's fall that he was behaving so strangely. Gabriel slowly let go of her. "I have done so many terrible things, Emelie. I have fought for you... I have done everything for you, really everything. For us. For Adrien. For our family," he said, his eyes glassy, his fingers shaking. "I thought I would never see you again, I...I thought I had lost you forever. Lost, you understand? Because of me, everything because of me!" he gasped. Emelie squeezed his hand reassuringly. "Gabriel, everything is fine. I am here. We are all healthy, we are all fine," she whispered and pressed a gentle kiss on his mouth. Gabriel smiled.
He smiled for the first time in...how many years? How much time had passed?
How long was he gone?
It didn't matter, now it didn't matter. He was here with Emelie, at home, and nothing could go wrong. "Rest, everything's fine now, believe me Gabriel," Emelie murmured and pulled away. Gabriel looked at his wife for a moment, then nodded. "I have to show you something else... come with me... okay?" she said suddenly. Gabriel nodded happily.
"Show me, no matter what it is. I'm happy. I'm happy because you're here, Emelie," he replied. His cheeks glowed, his tears dried on his skin, he still couldn't believe it. She was back, Emelie had returned. He followed his wife into the next room, which was his office, and looked at the portrait of her. "It's so beautiful," Emelie remarked, running his finger over the picture. Gabriel came over and agreed. "I wanted to immortalize you forever, you should always be with me, always be a part of me, Emelie," he whispered happily. Emelie paused. "I-" she hesitated. Her cheeks were red now, unsure of what to say.
"Please follow me, no matter what I say, just listen to me first, okay...?" Emelie looked uncertainly at her portrait. Gabriel stepped closer. "Of course," he replied and smiled. She slowly ran her finger over the picture and pressed a few buttons, suddenly the floor started to move and the two went down in an elevator. Frightened, Gabriel clung to Emelie, who looked at the floor, worried and dejected. The two went down into a huge basement with a high ceiling and round windows, a platform at the end of the bridge. "Where are we?" Gabriel looked back and forth in confusion as Emelie started to move. Gabriel followed her, the two stopped in front of a kind of capsule. "What...what...is that?", a thought slowly dawned on Gabriel, but his head was hazy, as if he didn't want to remember. Emelie walked to the capsule and sighed deeply. "I have to confess something to you...Gabriel," she stammered. She pulled something out of her suit, it looked like a brooch. Suddenly it lit up.
"I am Mariposa...I am the one who keeps terrorizing and akumatizing Paris. It is me," she confessed and suddenly Nuuroo appeared next to her. Gabriel took a step back. Horror was reflected on his face.
What did that mean? Mariposa? She was Hawkmoth? "Wait...I don't understand, but why? I...I..." Gabriel stuttered, confused. Fear spread through him. Everything had been fine. Emelie was here..."Gabriel," she whispered. She walked to the capsule and touched it, the lid opened and...
Gabriel gasped.That couldn't be true.
There was none other than Amelie Graham de Vanille in the capsule where Emelie should have been.
Everything was repeating itself. There was no other way out. There simply wasn't one.
Gabriel had failed again.

Now Marinette's earrings also started to glow and exactly at the moment she wanted to get up, something strange happened. Marinette did not wake up in Cat Noir's arms, no, she found herself in a red, shimmering material that resembled space. She turned around and wanted to know where she was.
