Every single person in our group flies in on different dragons and beasts.
Again, Soren and I are seated on Lazuli's back. We lead the path for the other dragons and creatures that our friends ride. With the storms of the great ghost of Avizandum, the gusts of wind are powerful. It's a long drop from up here; Soren's hands lock onto my armour from where he sits close behind me.
Although Corvus explains that the ghouls from the in-between were attacking our King, hundreds seem to be spared for defense here in Lux Aurea. There are clearly many thousands of souls that died unsatisfied - and who want to fight for Aaravos.
As we are air-born, only beats with wings are a fret. Soren and I both have our swords unsheathed but I have to balance my sides with the precious sack that I carry. Dragons born from ebony mist swirl past us. Soren is doing more good than I am, standing tall and slashing when he has a chance. Whilst these creatures spew shadowy death from their mouths, Lazuli fights back with blasts of water. Sometimes I can feel the intense heat of fire near us and I know that Pyrrah is going strong. I truly believe that we are succeeding, making our way through this storm and into the centre battle. Yet a shocked cry for help interrupts that thought.
Terry has been pulled off of Squeaky's back.
He is being dragged upwards by a winged creature - definitely not a drgaon and something far more horrifying. The beast has a screaming Terry in its claws. I watch as Corvus veers Pyrrah to his aid. However when our tracker grabs a hold of Terry's legs, Pyrrah is tackled through the air by a larger dragon. These damn dragons and their pride; all of them died with unfinished business.
Now Soren and I are faced with the image of our friends being carried away. To where? We don't know. But we can't wait for them to be dropped. Lazuli circles around towards them. "I have an idea-" I am in the middle of saying when I realise I no longer have a riding partner. In a moment of stupid herosim, Soren has quite literally jumped from Lazuli's back. He continues their chain, clutching onto Corvus's legs. "SOREN!" I shout. Then I scream his name even louder, the blood curtling sound drowned out by a rumble of thunder, as they are dropped. Now is the perfect time for rain - not.
I thank every single lucky thought and prayer that was racing through my head as Squeaky comes to their rescue. The sigh that is released from my chest almost knocks me off of Lazuli. They'll be alright. I set my sights on the fight once more. That is when it occurs to me, this downpour is not due to Avizandum's lightning storm.
Domina Profundis has arrived.
She sends the strength of the seas Aaravos' way. I watch with great pleasure as it knocks him backwards. There is an echoing roar; not from Aaravos, but from his servant: Avizandum. Aaravos, well, he merely chuckles once he regains his footing. "Oh! What a crowd I've gathered!" His booming voice must be transverssing across the whole of Xadia.
"Down there!" I urge Lazuli, careful not to be too distracted by his speech.
"Now this is familiar isn't it," Aaravos continues. Lazuli gracefully lands on the height of the structure we were eyeing up before. "Hasn't this all happened before? Arrogant fools! Again and again you make the same mistakes!" Aaravos goes on, his own words laced with arrogant pride. The tower itself is slippery due to the rain and Lazuli exclaims in worry when I stumble. I usher her off, needing her to help the others. Right now, I have a perfect vantage point. "You know how this goes! Go on! Kill me!" Aaravos is shouting. There is a peculiar thump behind me, one that doesn't sound like the forces of nature. I turn to see Callum has landed. His featehred arms return to normal and I have a great urge to hug him. We made it. We're here now. "You will be destroying yourself and everyone you love!"
