The flight over is a tense one. All three of us are anxious with what we may find down in that Valley. Will we be killed on the spot by our biggest enemy? Will we arrive to an empty land?
No one knows.
But there is no time like the present to find out. Nevertheless, Lazuli's flight remained hesitant and I know she doesn't travel as fast as she could. Even dragons fear this Startouch Elf.
"We should relocate our people to Banther lodge," Callum says shortly after take off. It is clear that his mind has been whirling - he isn't the only one. "It's safer there, at least we know the area. It's close to the river where there are crops." What Callum doesn't add is the access to kitchens, flushing bathrooms, and a meeting space. The lodge can act as a temporary headquarters.
"That's a good idea, Callum," Corvus comments casually. It is a short response. I nod my head in agreement before realising that Callum can't see me. But we can discuss plans later. Right now, silence consumes us. We are focussed on the flap of Lazuli's wings as she rises. My breath holds over the hill.
No one remains in the valley.
"They're gone," I utter, stating the obvious.
"Something weird lingers," Corvus comments in a mumble.
"Let's get a closer look," I suggest. We didn't come over here just to turn around. "Cmon, girl," I prompt Lazuli with a pat on her side. We glide down - this dragon's purposeful movements holding different intent compared to our last swooping rides.
The sight from the ground is the same as above.
"You were right, (Y/n), this dragon is very dead," Corvus murmurs from where we stroll nearer to Sol Regem's corpse.
Callum sighs deeply. I peel my eyes away from the once great and honoured dragon. My stare lands on the ocean; the petite waves that lap against the shoreline. It moves beyond the shallows and across the body of water. "Guys?" I wonder slowly, my speech as uncertain as my thoughts.
"Yes?" Callum replies. I hear the shifting of their clothes as my friends both turn in the same direction.
"I'm not down here often," I begin. In my memory, this Valley of the Graves is mostly flat and barren. I have few stark memories - such as Harrow's funeral service and Ibis' last breath. Both of those events had the same backdrop. An expanse of water, with distant mountains. "But I think I would remember an island like that," I make clear.
"Nah that's always been there!" Callum retorts plainly as if we are bird watching and I have pointed out a tree.
"No," Corvus defies. He nods in agreement to me, but doesn't look my direction. Corvus' eyes narrow on the distant island. "I notice the tiniest details and (Y/n) is right. There was not an island, and now there is an island."
"Okay so I've been outvoted," Callum submits with a huff. His gaze also narrows, trying to focus better on the distance. Yet by the way he does it shows that he still disagrees with Corvus and I. "So... what could it mean?" I take the time to look at Callum now. Aaravos was here. Claudia was here. Terry was here. Now, this island is here. Somehow I think they must be connected-
"Help," a weak voice enters my ears. It's so low and quiet that I'm the only one who turns. "Help me." I search the scattering of rocks on the landscape for the source of the male's pleas. Callum's head is the next to swivel.
We spot the movement adjacent to the boulder at the same time.
Whilst my hand searches for my weapon, Callum goes to step forward. I immediately extend an arm in-front of him. Why would one of our own be down here? The only solution is that this stranger is not one of us. "Claudia? Terry?" Corvus questions in the direction of this mysterious figure.
