"Holy shit," A voice Charles recognized as his soulmate's, interrupted his previous thoughts, "It's so red."

Did he want to know what they were talking about? Not really, but damn was he curious.

He shifted in his seat, turning his attention back as Mattia walked into the room. Standing alongside him was arguably the most beautiful person he'd ever seen. Charles had half a brain cell to close his mouth as Fred introduced them.

"Charles, this is Y/n," Mattia said, gesturing to you, who smiled and lifted a hand to briefly wave at him. "They will be your new lead mechanic. Y/n, Charles is our new driver this year."

"Holy shit, I thought I was doing one of the academy guys. It's Charles Leclerc right in front of me," the voice in his head said, and suddenly, it clicked for him. This person - Y/n - was not only his new crew member, but they were also his soulmate.

He couldn't say anything about it either. Not if he actually wanted to get to know you first. Ferrari is notorious for their strict rules, and he knew that if he said anything, it would jeopardize your position more than his.

So he stayed silent. For years.

You two had arguably the best driver-mechanic relationship in all of Formula 1, but there was always that nagging voice in the back of his head. Was it your own thoughts? Sometimes, yes, but he also had his own conscious ranting about how he should tell you.

So far, 2026 has been going well for the Ferraris. They were consistently at the top, the car was running great overall. Then, it was the middle of the 2026 season when he heard the fateful thought.

"If Fred won't hear me out, I'll leave. That rattle is borderline dangerous at this point."

Charles choked on his drink, causing Lewis to laugh at him before Charles got up to look for you. After deciding you were definitely not in his garage and walking aimlessly through a few hallways, he found you outside of Fred's office.

"Hey, I've been looking for you!" Charles said as casually as he could, but even you picked up on the forced smile as he leaned against the wall ahead of you. "How have you been?"

"Could be better," You shrugged, looking between him and the door to Fred's office. "I have a meeting with Fred to go over something I found with the car."

"Is it bad?" He asked, tilting his head at you.

"Is it bad, he asks," You voice in his head scoffed, "If only he knew just how bad it is. It's astounding how this car is still able to run, and he asks, is it bad."
