Being in a relationship was nothing like the books you' grown up reading. It was vastly different from the romance movies you'd watched. It was one thing to read random words on a page or watch two actors pretend (and totally sell) that they are soulmates versus actually living through it.
You'd met Gavi in the most stereotypical book cliche way: he'd offered you a ride home when it was pouring rain. Screw stranger danger. You had just bought some new books, and they were already soaking in your tote bag. That ended up being one of the best decisions you ever made.
Now, it's two years into your relationship, and Gavi still never fails to make you blush.
You'd have thought your first date was enough, but it was just a taste of exactly how flirty Gavi could (and would) be.
"You know, there's something in your eyes," He said, sitting across from you at the little mom-and-pop shop he loved.
"Oh, like an eyelash or something?" You replied, blinking a bunch to get it out.
"No, I'm not sure if it's the mystery or the fact that they're leaving me speechless," He smirked, and you were ready to combust, hiding your hot face in your hands immediately. "Hey, don't hide from me! How else can I look at your beautiful face?"
"Gavi, please stop," You groaned, not moving to reveal your face. "We're in public!"
"I can't help it!" He defended with a softer smile. "There's just something about you...Is it your smile or is it all of you?"
"Are you always like this?"
"Nope, it's just a for-you special," Gavi chuckled, reaching across the table to pry one of your hands off of your face and hold it in his. "I can tone it down a little bit. For now."
"I can live with that," You sighed, dropping your other hand to the table as your food arrived.
Truthfully, he did dial it back a little, in his mind. In your mind, no, absolutely not.
"You know, I think the secret to a perfect date night is good food, good wine, and good company," Gavi said as he cut up some vegetables and glanced over at you through his lashes. You were standing across the counter from him, leaning against it and randomly twirling your own glass of wine. "Sounds like you."
"I-Gavi," You dragged out, dropping your head down. "I'm not that special, Gavi."
"You are to me," He said definitively, setting the knife to the side and leaning on his forearms closer to you. "If you knew what I was thinking, you'd be surprised, but for that, you'd need more than one glass of wine."
"Well, with another glass of wine, I'm sure I'll be braver," You replied awkwardly as you finished off the glass.
"I wouldn't mind seeing a little more of your brave side," He said lowly as he filled up your glass.
"I'll try," You caved, "but only because you asked."
A few months into your relationship, Gavi mentioned taking you to meet his family. It wasn't a big thing or anything, but he had talked about you enough to them. They basically knew you already. He just thought it was finally time, and while nervous, you still wanted to meet them.
"Aurora is going to suffocate you," Gavi warned as he pulled into his parents' house. "You thought I was bad, she's on a whole different level."
"How bad can she be?" You tried to brush off, but you met with a brunette running out of the house and throwing your door open.
"Look who's here! The infamous person who's stolen by brother's heart," She greeted, throwing her arms around you.
"Uh, yeah, hi," You stammered, side-eying Gavi, who was just smiling and rolling his eyes at the two of you while grabbing your bag. You hesitantly wrapped an arm around Aurora before she jerked herself back.
"Ah, you're so adorable," She said, poking at your cheeks. "You don't have to be so nervous. I'm just messing with you."
"Relax," Gavi said, directed at Aurora as he pulled her off of you. He pushed her toward the house as he pulled you into his chest. "Sorry, she just has a... unique way of asking questions. She's harmless."
"She makes me understand how horror movies feel," You muttered, hiding your face in his chest as he cackled. "Don't laugh at me!"
"I can't help it when you say such cute things," He said, stifling his laughs as Aurora poked her head out of the house.
"You lovebirds coming in, or are you planning on standing out here all day?" She shouted.
"Yeah, we're coming," He replied as he backed up, keeping your hand firmly in his and led you to the door.
"TMI, but okay," She muttered, and immediately, you hid behind Gavi's shoulder.
"Gosh, you're worse than him!"
"Who do you think I learned it from?"
If you thought you were safe around his teammates, think again.
The team has just qualified for the FIFA World Cup and was going out to celebrate that achievement. You stood on the balcony of your hotel, just catching your breath after being nonstop for the last few weeks, when Gavi wrapped his arms around you from behind.
"Thank you for sticking with me all this time," He whispered, leaning his head on your shoulder and ghosting his lips over your neck. "Sometimes I wonder how you handle it all: being so gorgeous and irresistible all the time."
"Well, it works out that you're so damn charming," You whispered back, turning in his hold to face him. "You make everything easy, and slightly infuriating, but I can live with that."
"Charming, you say?" He perked up as he pulled his head back to look you in the eyes. "You know what? I'll take it."
"Good because that's the extent of my flirting of the night," You smirked, leaning in to peck him and pulling back just as quickly. "We need to head out before your team sends a search party."
Almost on cue, someone was knocking on your door.
"They always ruin my fun," Gavi groaned, but still fixed his tie and led you out to meet Pedri, who was the only one waiting for you two.
Once you got to the restaurant, the party was in full swing already. You stayed glued to Gavi's side, occasionally popping over by Pedri simply because he was the only other person you knew.
"You know what? I think we should do something together." Gavi whispered in your ear after everyone had sat down for the meal. You were laughing at something Pedri had said when Gavi leaned in. Immediately, your small smile was replaced by a nervous one.
"What do you mean?"
"Maybe we should go somewhere we can talk more. Just you and me..." He trailed off, lowly as he walked his fingers up your thigh.
"Pablo Martín Páez Gavira," You gasped, slapping his hand away, "I am telling your mother!"
