"CAN YOU EXPLAIN to me, and this time slowly, what this rune is supposed to do again?"
Clary smiles at her friend. They had called Blythe after learning that Isabelle had gone to Edom on her own and the plan for the Alliance Runes had been made. She was glad to have her there. Clary often felt a little guilty for leaving Blythe out of a lot of things that she thought dangerous.
They did it for her own good, but it still felt bad.
"These runes will bind a Shadowhunter to a Downworlder so they can share abilities and immunities. That way we can all get to Edom safely," she elaborates, toying with the stele in her hands.
Blythe then asks if the runes will also work on Mundanes. Her redhaired friend explains that she isn't sure, asking her why she wants to know. Although.. she has a feeling that she knows the reason already.
"Because I'm going to join you, of course."
"You're not joining us," Alec states bluntly. "I am and you are not going to stop me," Blythe counters with just as much stubbornness. The Lightwood wanted to argue back when he was told that his 'guest' had arrived.
He starts muttering things underneath his breath while following the other Shadowhunter to the door. Blythe smiles in victory over the argument that she had won.
Moments later they could see Alec walking his guest into the hallway, where Meliorn and Simon were talking. After a short conversation, which turned into a very obvious discussion, Clary and Jace thought it a good moment to join them and Blythe followed.
Lorenzo Rey looks around and spots the group approaching him. The Mundane let out a relieved sigh.
She had let Catarina into the penthouse to help Lorenzo, but then she had received a text message from Clary saying that there was something urgent at the Institute. Blythe had left Catarina to help her former roommate and this was the first time she saw him back in human form since the whole.. reptile thing.
"Lorenzo!"
The warlock turns towards the noise with a quirked eyebrow, unknowingly opening his body language so that the girl could hug him around his middle. He was stunned with surprise, but a few seconds later he attempts to hug her back, although rather awkwardly.
The others glance among each other. None of them had known that Lorenzo and Blythe had built a bond like this in the time they were stuck together at Magnus' apartment. All of them only heard either party complain about the agreement.
"I'm so sorry that I forgot about you being a chameleon and everything," she apologizes. She couldn't help but feel guilty about leaving Lorenzo as a reptile, despite honestly forgetting about the ordeal amidst all the chaos.
"You had a lot on your mind," he remarks, but his tone of voice was not accusing at all. Blythe sighs again, happy to have been forgiven.
They all gather in the OPS center, where Simon and Clary were the first to draw their runes. Lorenzo had been informed of Blythe's idea to come along. After seething for a while and arguing about her stupidity, he demanded that he'd be put in a team alongside her.
Alec didn't mind the idea too much, having thought the same thing after pairing with the warlock. Jace also offers to take her onto his team, which his partner Meliorn didn't seem to mind.
"Guys, this isn't a game of 'Who gets to babysit the Mundane'! I can take care of myself. Clary gave me weapons to use and I've had multiple training sessions with Izzy. I'll be fine, and I'll have Simon and Clary at my side," she bursts out. Her heated glare was pointed at the three men, who quickly retreated and allowed Clary to draw the rune onto her too.
