***Killian's POV***

I study Zevon carefully, wondering what could be causing him so much anxiety.

Usually, it's more of a malicious anticipation, but today is different.

And though I don't care for him much, my empathy is not something I can simply get rid of or turn off at will. 

Well, maybe with practice.

"You're nervous." I mention.

He scoffs. 

"Stay out of my head."

"I'm sorry. It's not that easy. And you skipped school today. What are you so worried about?" I ask, genuinely concerned.

I didn't really think Zevon was afraid of anything.

And it also seems more serious than stressing over a plan to win Khai back.

Zevon sighs, studying me momentarily. 

"It's... my parents, Killian." He replies reluctantly.

"Oh no... that can't be good." I reply.

I may not agree with Zevon on many things and he can be a real jerk, but as far as parents go, I feel really sorry for him.

Zevon's parents more or less dumped him with my coven since he was just little already. They'd come back often to check in on him and test his powers, and unfortunately, corrupt him with their views and morals while they were at it. Zevon used to love it when they came over, but as he grew, they visited less and less. Now, he dreads them. I don't blame him; he has reason to.

Aisde from being quite the set of powerful and intimidating vampires, they're very set in their ways. And though they've left him alone frequently, they're oddly invested in who he's becoming as a vampire. If they're coming to visit him, I understand why he's stressed.

"They're stopping by?" I ask, somewhat with dread.

Zevon takes a deep breath and nods.

"Yeah. They're gonna visit the country... and more specifically, me." He replies.

"I'm sorry, Zevon. That's gonna suck. Do you know why?"

"No... not really. Maybe to check in on me... but not because they actually care about me. They probably want to make sure I'm turning into one of them or something... which is totally unfair because I've got loads of siblings. I guess I'm just their... newest project or something. I don't even care about them that much but I'm still worried I'm gonna let them down."

There's a spike in Zevon's uneasiness, and shortly after, he says,

"What if they're unhappy and they want to take me back with them? What if I have to leave?" Zevon sighs, even more distressed. "I don't want to go back there, Killian, I don't want to." He almost pleads, as if there's something I can do about it.

I swallow.

"Do you think they'll do that?" I ask.

Zevon shrugs.

"I don't know... but if they're disappointed or think I'm not powerful enough then-" Zevon cuts himself off and looks at me with a continued pleading in his eyes. "You can't let them know I like Khai. I mean... it's not like he's gonna forgive me anyways... but still. Not only is he a boy, but he's also a werewolf. And even worse, my parents have an unpleasant history with his parents. If they know I like him, they might even try to kill him... who knows."

"We're not gonna let that happen, no matter what. Look, I know you and I have our differences, but I still got your back. I'll be your moral support if you need it."
