The University Fair

The University Fair had always been one of the biggest events in the university.

Every college poured months of preparation into it. Organizations competed to create the busiest booths. Performers rehearsed until late in the evening. Alumni returned to visit the campus they once called home. For one whole week, the university stopped feeling like a place weighed down by quizzes and deadlines. Instead, it became a celebration.

This year, however, Aiah and Khae found themselves seeing the fair from a completely different perspective.

They weren't simply students attending.

They were among the people making sure everyone else remembered it.

The campus was already alive before eight in the morning.

Colorful buntings stretched from one building to another, dancing with the gentle breeze. Student volunteers rushed across the grounds carrying extension cords, boxes of decorations, and stacks of registration forms. Music from the sound check echoed across the open field while different organizations gave each other last-minute pep talks.

Aiah adjusted the camera hanging around her neck before checking the battery for what felt like the tenth time.

Everything had to work.

There were no second chances for moments that happened only once.

"Aiah."

She turned.

Professor Lauren stood beside the entrance of the Fine Arts building, hands tucked inside the pockets of his slacks.

"You nervous?"

"A little." She smiled sheepishly.

"Good."

She blinked.

"...Good?"

"If you're nervous, it means you still care."

He looked toward the field where students were beginning to gather.

"Now go."

He smiled faintly.

"Tell the story."

Meanwhile, on the opposite side of campus, Khae stood with the Publicity Committee.

A whiteboard filled with posting schedules rested against the wall behind her while committee members waited for instructions.

She scanned the list one last time.

"Opening ceremony photos first."

Everyone nodded.

"As soon as Documentation uploads the first batch, we'll release the welcome post."

One volunteer raised her hand.

"What if the internet acts up again?"

Khae didn't miss a beat.

"Offline editing first."

She lifted a flash drive.

"We'll adjust later."

The volunteer grinned.

"You really thought of everything."

Khae smiled politely.

Not everything.

There was one thing she still couldn't prepare herself for.

Seeing Aiah.

The opening ceremony ended almost exactly on schedule.
