The dessert shop was tucked away on a quiet corner a few blocks from the university.
It wasn't crowded.
Just warm lights, soft music, and the faint scent of freshly baked waffles drifting through the air.
"This place is cute," Aiah said as she looked around.
Khae smiled.
"I hoped you'd like it."
"You've been planning dates now?"
"I've been trying."
Aiah raised an eyebrow.
"Trying?"
"I have a list."
"A list?"
Khae looked down at the menu.
"...Maybe."
Aiah laughed.
"You made a list of places to take me?"
"I might have."
"Khae."
"What?"
"That's ridiculously adorable."
A faint blush crept onto Khae's cheeks.
"I knew I shouldn't have admitted it."
"You absolutely should have."
The waiter arrived, giving them a moment to look at the menu.
Aiah ordered a chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream.
Khae chose a Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream.
When the waiter left, Aiah rested her chin on her hand.
"So."
"So?"
"You've changed."
"I have?"
"You flirt."
"I do?"
"You smile."
"I smiled before."
"Not like this."
Khae tilted her head.
"Like what?"
"Like you're happy all the time."
For a brief moment, Khae's expression softened.
"I think I am."
The words were simple.
But they landed gently between them.
Aiah reached across the table and brushed her fingertips against Khae's.
"I'm glad."
"So am I."
Their desserts arrived a few minutes later.
Aiah took one bite of her brownie before immediately reaching across the table with her spoon.
Khae caught her wrist.
"What are you doing?"
"Taste test."
"You ordered your own dessert."
"I know."
"I specifically asked if you wanted waffles."
"I said no."
