Saturday mornings at Aiah's place usually began slowly.
No alarms.
No rushing through breakfast.
No checking the time every five minutes before heading to work.
Just the comforting sounds of home.
The faint clatter of dishes.
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee drifting from the kitchen.
And somewhere upstairs...
Gwen was almost certainly still asleep.
Aiah stepped out past the front gate, a small watering can in hand.
She had changed into a white tee and short shorts after breakfast, her hair tied loosely behind her head as she watered the potted plants lining the fence outside.
Ivy had already left to buy groceries.
The neighborhood was quiet.
She hummed softly to herself, crouching beside a flowering plant that had begun to bloom again.
"You finally decided to cooperate," she murmured to it.
A car slowed in front of the house.
Aiah barely looked up.
Probably one of the neighbors.
The engine grew quieter.
Then stopped.
She frowned.
That wasn't one of the neighborhood cars.
Curious, she stood and brushed her hands against her shorts.
A sleek, unfamiliar white Toyota Corolla Cross sat neatly in front of their gate.
"..."
She blinked.
The driver's window rolled down.
A familiar smile appeared.
"Need a ride?"
Aiah's eyes widened.
"...Khae?"
Khae laughed.
"Good morning."
For a full three seconds...
Aiah simply stared.
Then she hurried toward the gate.
"What..."
She looked at the car.
Then back at Khae.
Then at the car again.
"What happened to your car?"
"I still have it."
"...You do?"
"Mhm."
Aiah looked around as though the red car might suddenly appear from nowhere.
"So..."
"...Whose is this?"
Khae rested one elbow against the window.
"Mine."
Silence.
"..."
Aiah blinked again.
"...Yours?"
"Dad surprised me this morning."
