By nine in the morning, Aiah already had three tabs open on her monitor, a cup of coffee that had long gone cold, and a growing collection of sticky notes around her desk.
"Can I borrow your eyes for a second?"
She looked up.
One of the senior designers was standing beside her workstation.
"Sure."
He placed a tablet beside her.
"What do you think?"
Aiah studied the layout.
"The spacing here feels a little cramped."
She pointed toward the lower portion of the design.
"If the text moves up a bit, the product gets more breathing room."
He looked at it again.
"...You're right."
Aiah smiled sheepishly.
"I wasn't sure."
"Well, be more sure."
He laughed.
"That's why I asked."
By lunchtime, she'd already helped revise two social media layouts, resized marketing materials for different platforms, and sat through a short meeting about an upcoming campaign.
It was busy.
But it was the kind of busy she liked.
Creative.
Fast-paced.
Always changing.
Her phone vibrated.
Khae:
Busy?
Aiah smiled before replying.
Aiah:
Very.
Almost immediately—
Khae:
Have you eaten?
Aiah looked at the untouched sandwich beside her keyboard.
She quickly picked it up.
Took one bite.
Then typed.
Aiah:
Yes. 😇
Three dots appeared.
Disappeared.
Appeared again.
Khae:
That emoji makes me suspicious.
Aiah laughed quietly.
Aiah:
Excuse me?
Khae:
You only use that emoji when you're hiding something.
Aiah:
I am deeply offended.
Khae:
So... half your sandwich is gone now?
Aiah slowly looked down at the sandwich.
She had taken exactly one bite.
Aiah:
...
Khae:
😂
Khae:
Eat properly.
Aiah:
Yes, ma'am.
Khae:
Good.
Aiah smiled to herself.
One of her coworkers happened to pass by.
