Summer had a strange way of slowing everything down.

Without classes, deadlines, or meetings to rush to, the days felt longer.

Some days, that was nice.

Today...

Not so much.

"I'm bored."

Aiah didn't look up from the book on her lap.

"You've said that three times."

Gwen lay upside down on the living room sofa, one arm dangling dramatically toward the floor.

"I'm keeping count."

"So am I."

"I thought summer was supposed to be exciting."

"It has been."

"It was."

Gwen sighed loudly.

"Now it's just hot."

Aiah turned a page.

"You could always clean your room."

Gwen immediately sat upright.

"I said I was bored."

"That's an option."

"That's punishment."

From the dining table, Ivy laughed over her cup of tea.

"I agree with Aiah."

Gwen pointed accusingly.

"You're both against me."

"No," Ivy replied. "We're against the condition of your bedroom."

"My room has character."

"It has clothes."

"They're organized."

"They're on the chair."

"They're resting."

Aiah snorted into her book.

"You've named the laundry now?"

"It gets lonely."

Ivy shook her head.

"I don't know where you got this personality."

"You raised me."

"...Fair point."

The three of them laughed together.

After a few moments, Gwen stretched her arms over her head.

"I want coffee."

Aiah looked up.

"I wouldn't mind one."

Gwen's eyes narrowed immediately.

"That was suspiciously fast."

"What?"

"You answered before I even finished."

"I like coffee."

"You like one particular café."

Aiah tried to keep a straight face.

"I like their cheesecake."

"Mhm."

"And their latte."
