The moment Aiah got home, one thought stayed with her.
Khae couldn't drive.
She had replayed their conversation over and over during the ride home from work.
"You've taken care of me so many times."
"Let me do this."
She had meant every word.
Now came the difficult part.
Ivy was in the kitchen, slicing ripe mangoes for dessert when Aiah walked in.
"Tita?"
Ivy glanced over her shoulder.
"Hm?"
"Can I ask you something?"
She immediately noticed the unusually serious look on her niece's face.
"This is about Khae, isn't it?"
Aiah smiled sheepishly.
"...Maybe."
Ivy laughed.
"I had a feeling."
Aiah pulled out a chair and sat beside the counter.
"Khae sprained her wrist yesterday."
"I know. Gwen told me."
"They said she can't drive for two weeks."
Ivy nodded.
"I heard."
Aiah looked down at her hands.
"I... wanted to drive her."
The knife stopped moving.
Ivy looked at her quietly before a gentle smile spread across her face.
"You really want to do this."
Aiah nodded.
"I do."
"Because she would do the same for you?"
Aiah smiled softly.
"She already has."
More times than she could count.
Ivy reached across the counter and gave her hand a light squeeze.
"I think it's a wonderful idea."
Hope immediately flickered across Aiah's face.
"Really?"
"Of course."
Then Ivy chuckled.
"But you know whose answer matters most."
Aiah let out a long sigh.
"...Dad."
Dean was sitting in his study with several documents spread neatly across his desk when Aiah called.
He looked up over the top of his reading glasses.
"You're home."
"Mhm."
She sat on the edge of her bed, propping her phone against a pillow.
"So..."
Dean smiled knowingly.
"You only start with 'so' when you're about to ask me for something."
Aiah laughed.
"Is it that obvious?"
