After the interview, Aiah learned that waiting could be its own kind of challenge.
The first few days were easy.
She was still distracted by everything that had happened.
The Cebu trip.
Being home.
Seeing her parents.
Having everyone together.
Watching Khae settle into Mezzo and find something she genuinely enjoyed.
But once life returned to its usual rhythm, the waiting became more noticeable.
She tried not to think about it too much.
Tried.
But sometimes, while eating breakfast, she would glance at her phone.
Sometimes while lying in bed, she would wonder if the company had already made a decision.
Sometimes she would open her email without even realizing she was doing it.
Gwen noticed, of course.
She always did.
"You checked your inbox again."
Aiah looked up from her phone.
"I was just looking."
Gwen raised an eyebrow.
"At the same inbox you checked ten minutes ago?"
Aiah looked away.
Gwen nodded.
"I knew it."
"I'm just curious."
"You're anxious."
"I am not."
"You are."
Aiah sighed.
"You sound like Khae."
"That should tell you something."
"What?"
"That you're obvious."
Aiah rolled her eyes, but she was smiling.
From the kitchen, Ivy laughed.
"You two are exactly the same as when you were younger."
"We are not," Gwen said.
"You are."
Aiah smiled softly.
She was grateful for moments like this.
Because even while she waited for something important, life did not stop.
The call came on an ordinary afternoon.
Aiah was sitting at the dining table, reviewing some documents when her phone rang.
She almost ignored it.
Almost.
Then she saw the company name.
Her heart immediately started beating faster.
"Hello?"
She listened quietly.
Her expression changed little by little.
Not because something was wrong.
Because something was happening.
"Yes, thank you."
