The student council office was louder than usual.
Midterms were only a few weeks away, but that had somehow become everyone else's reason to suddenly remember they had requirements, proposals, and event requests waiting to be approved.
"Khae, can you check this budget?"
"One second."
"Khae, where do I submit the venue request?"
"On the shared drive."
"Khae—"
"I'm still answering the first two."
Laughter rippled through the room.
Being the Communication representative in the Student Council wasn't glamorous.
It was mostly paperwork.
Meetings.
Helping people who had accidentally deleted files they hadn't actually deleted.
Khae didn't mind.
She liked being useful.
She was carrying a stack of printed tarpaulins toward the storage cabinet when she noticed a first-year student struggling with one of the display panels leaning against the wall.
"Wait."
Khae set her stack down.
"I'll help."
The girl looked relieved.
"Thank you, Ate."
Together, they lifted the panel.
It was heavier than Khae expected.
"Let's lean it against the cabinet first."
"Okay."
The first-year adjusted her grip.
At the same moment—
One of the wheels beneath the display stand caught on an uneven floor tile.
The stand lurched.
The panel tipped sideways.
"Careful!"
Without thinking, Khae reached out to stop it from falling toward the freshman.
The weight shifted unexpectedly.
Her left wrist twisted sharply against the edge of the frame while she stepped awkwardly to keep her balance.
Pain shot through her wrist.
She managed to steady the panel.
The freshman stared.
"...Ate?"
Khae inhaled slowly.
"I'm okay."
She wasn't.
Ten minutes later...
"...You're not okay."
The campus physician looked over the X-rays one last time before placing them aside.
"No fracture."
Khae let out the breath she had been holding.
"That's good."
"But..."
She immediately knew there would be a "but."
"You've sprained your wrist."
