Sunday unfolded at its own pace.
No alarms.
No rush to beat traffic.
No classes waiting on the other side of the morning.
Just the quiet comfort of a house slowly waking up.
The smell of coffee greeted Khae and Aiah before they even reached the bottom of the stairs.
In the kitchen, Gwen stood in front of the stove, absentmindedly stirring her coffee.
She looked exactly like someone who wished mornings started around noon.
Ivy chuckled as she plated garlic fried rice.
"Gwenny, you've been stirring that for two minutes." Ivy told her daughter.
"I know."
"You're not adding anything."
"I know."
Gwen glanced at her cup.
"Habit."
Ivy laughed.
"You're unbelievable."
Just then, Aiah and Khae walked into the kitchen.
Aiah felt it immediately...the small shift in the room, the brief pause in her own breathing when she noticed Khae beside her. Khae's presence always seemed to do that, as if it took up more space than it should.
"Morning," Aiah greeted.
Khae turned toward her, just for a second, and the look she gave her was soft enough to feel deliberate.
"Morning."
Gwen lifted her mug in acknowledgment.
"Morning."
Khae smiled politely, though her eyes flicked once more toward Aiah before she looked away.
"Good morning, Tita Ivy."
"Morning, dear. Sit down. Breakfast's almost ready."
Before either of them could, footsteps echoed from the hallway.
Chico walked in, phone in one hand, stretching with the other.
"...Good morning."
"You're awake," Gwen said.
"I smelled breakfast."
"That tracks."
He sat beside Khae.
Aiah noticed the way Khae shifted slightly to make room, the movement small and careful. She told herself not to read into it. She failed almost immediately.
"I counted," Chico announced.
"What?"
"I took six hundred forty-three photos yesterday."
Gwen stopped stirring her coffee.
"Delete half."
"No."
"You don't need six hundred forty-three photos."
"I do. For your embarrassing candid moments."
Gwen narrowed her eyes.
"Hand me the phone."
"No."
"You don't deserve photography rights anymore."
Chico laughed.
"Too late."
