The bright office lights had a way of making afternoons feel longer than they really were.

More than a month into the job, Aiah was finally beginning to find her rhythm.

The first week had been full of introductions, unfamiliar software, and trying to remember names. The second had taught her where everything was. By the fourth, she no longer hesitated before opening project files or walking into meetings.

She was still learning.

But she no longer felt like she was only trying to keep up.

Two large monitors glowed on her desk, one displaying a video timeline, the other an Illustrator file waiting for revisions. Beside them sat her drawing tablet, a notebook filled with rough sketches, and a mug of coffee that had long since gone cold.

Her phone vibrated.

She glanced at the screen.

Khae:
Your coffee is probably cold again.

Aiah smiled.

Without looking up from her monitor, she typed back.

Aiah:
You're assuming I forgot.

A reply came almost immediately.

Khae:
I'm assuming I know you.

Aiah laughed quietly under her breath before finally reaching for the mug.

She took one sip.

Cold.

She sighed.

Aiah:
...You win.

Around noon, Bea stood from her desk and stretched.

"Lunch?"

Aiah looked away from her screen.

"Please."

A few minutes later, the creative team had gathered in the break room.

Lunches were unpacked.

Conversations drifted from weekend plans to impossible clients, printers that refused to cooperate, and whether anyone actually enjoyed editing revision number seventeen.

Bea glanced across the table.

"You've settled in pretty quickly."

"I think so."

"You don't look terrified anymore."

Aiah laughed.

"Only internally."

"That's progress."

Amelié nodded in agreement.

"I remember my first month."

"I almost cried because I couldn't find the export button."

"You?"

Amelié pointed at herself dramatically.

"I was young."

"You were twenty-three."

"I said what I said."

The table laughed.

The break room door opened.

Nico from the marketing department stepped inside carrying a small paper bag.

He greeted everyone before stopping near the table.

"Morning."

Bea looked at the clock.
