Chapter 10

After cleaning my room completely, I decided to go downstairs. I heard the phone ring again. Did nobody answer it last time? Michael came in and was walking towards the phone. I thought he was going to answer it, but just when he got closer, he totally walked past it. I was confused. He sat on the couch and looked at me. "You gonna get that or what?" He said to me. I raised my eyebrows. "Me?" I questioned, "You want me to answer it?" He replied, "Yeah, why not?" I picked up the phone and said, "Hello?"

???: Oh. Umm, is Luke there?

Nicole: Uhh, who's asking?

Michael looked at me and widened his eyes as if I had just shown a form of disrespect. I lip synched to him, "What?" The person replied into the phone, "This is Ari, his girlfriend." I paused for a second. Luke's dating? "Ari" supposedly noticed my huge pause and said, "Ari as in Arzaylea? Who is this?"

Nicole: Wait, your name is Arzaylea?

Ari: You heard me. And you are?

Nicole: Absolutely shocked. Um, my name's Nicole.

Ari: (scoffs) Luke is mine, you bitch. How dare you steal him from me?

I covered the phone with my hand and said to Michael, "I think I hear Calum calling you." He squinted his eyes and went upstairs. I continued to talk into the phone.

Nicole: Oh, please. I haven't stole him from you. I had him in the first place.

Ari: Excuse me?

Nicole: I'm practically his little sister. I live with him?

Ari: ... Oh... He has talked about you.

Nicole: Yuh-huh. So I suppose you better apologize if you want me to put in a good word about you to Luke.

Ari: And what's that supposed to mean?

Nicole: Let's just say Luke's never comfortable dating a girl if his favourite girl has a problem with her.

Ari: Is that a threat?

Nicole: It's advice, honey. Take it.

Ari: Okay, I'm sorry. When I heard a female voice answer the phone, I got concerned.

Nicole: I'm 13 years old. I can't sound that old.

Ari: 13 years old isn't that far away from 19.

Nicole: It's 6 years away.

Ari: Same difference. Anyway, is my apology good enough for you to forgive me?

Nicole: Sure. I'll go get Luke.

Ari: Thanks.

I covered the phone with my hand for the second and called Luke. He came downstairs and before giving him the phone, I said to him, "Is that your girlfriend on the phone? Because she's really nice. I like her a lot." Luke smiled and said, "You do? Well that's great." I handed the phone to him and walked away. Isn't life great?
