Chapter 18

I decided to grab my iPod after Ashton's little talk and text Matthew. Ashton just decided to take a break from his box searching and went down to the kitchen with the rest of the guys. Now I was in the living room alone.

Nicole: hey matt!

Matt: (5 minutes later) hey what's up

Nicole: nm u?

Matt: nothing really

Nicole: ok. So how r u? We haven't talked in so long

Matt: I'm doing pretty well. I think it's cause we've just been really busy in a whole bunch of stuff that we haven't had the time

Nicole: actually YOU haven't had the time. I've just been here waiting for u 2 talk 2 me

Matt: really?

Nicole: yes! Really!

Matt: r u mad?

Nicole: no but what have u been so busy with?

Matt: just homework and stuff

Nicole: Matt seriously? That's ur answer? R u not smart enough to know that I would've gotten the same homework as u?

Matt: r u calling me dumb?

Nicole: No! What is wrong with u?

Matt: nothing what's wrong with u?

Nicole: OMG I haven't done a thing. Geez Matt something's changed about u

Matt: nothing has changed about me. It's u who's changed

Nicole: OMG u r making my decision easier and easier to make

Matt: what decision?

Nicole: whether we should even stay together!

I didn't even care that I said that. I was so angry at him that I was ready to answer whatever he said back.

Matt: you've been thinking about that?

Nicole: yeah I have.

Matt: and I've been making it easier 4 u 2 make a decision?

Nicole: pretty much

Matt: so now what? Is it over?

Nicole: YES.

For some reason, I was relieved to say that it was over. I mean, I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I was kinda happy to be honest.

Matt: Well u know what? Fine! It's over. But I'M the one ending this Nicole. I AM

Nicole: Why does that even matter 2 u Matthew?

Matt: Cuz I was planning on doing it in the first place

Nicole: omg r u serious

Matt: goodbye Nicole

I didn't quite understand. He was thinking of breaking up with me in he first place? No, this can't be happening. He broke up with me. I thought it was going to be the other way around. This... This is humiliating. I can't let anyone know he broke up with me. People have to know I broke up with him! I knew I had to tell everyone what had happened but not the exact truth. I took a deep breath and walked into the kitchen and said, "I have something to say." They all looked at me concerned. This kinda scared me since I was unsure of what all of their reactions would be. So I hesitated, took another deep breath, and said, "I broke up with Matt." They widened their eyes and exchanged looks. Michael stood up from his seat and said, "Nicole, um, are you alright?" I shrugged my shoulders and said, "Yeah, I'm okay." They didn't seem convinced. Luke said, "Nicole, I know you wanna be strong and everything but it's okay to be sad." I replied, "Luke, I'm the one who broke it off."

Calum: But still. You must be a little sad that it's over.

Nicole: Not really.

Luke: Nicole, you don't have to put up an act for us. We're all family. We can all relate to you.

Nicole: Guys, I'm serious. I'm fine.

Michael: How did you get this idea of breaking up? I mean, how did this even happen?

Nicole: I don't know. I just didn't want to keep dating him. It felt weird to continue.

Ashton: Nicole, when I gave you that talk, I didn't intend to give you any pressure on breaking up with Matt.

Luke: You put that idea in her head, Ash?

Ashton: No, of course not! At least... I never meant to.

Michael: Dude!

Nicole: No, it's not Ashton's fault. It's nobody's fault.

At that time, I just walked out of the kitchen and for the entire day, things were awkward between us all.
