Chapter 3

THE NEXT DAY

I woke up laying on the couch with Ashton and saw Luke, Calum, and Michael on the ground. Wow. We must've actually fallen asleep last night. The sun was shining outside. Although the blinds were closed, you could still see some sunlight. I got up and opened the blinds just to shield my eyes from the bright light. Then everybody woke up. They all yawned and Luke asked, "What time is it?" I saw Michael's phone on the table so I grabbed it and checked the time. "11:48," I said. Then my eyes widened. "SCHOOL! OH, MY GOD!" I said. Calum said, "Hold on. I'm gonna check your school website. It may be cancelled."

Nicole: Why would it be cancelled?

Ashton: Last night was a HUGE storm. There's no doubt in my mind that outside must be trashed.

Nicole: Oh. (Walks to the window) Whoooaaa.

I looked outside and saw how terrible it was. There were huge branches on the ground and I squinted my eyes to see a fallen tree in the background. I looked in our backyard and saw a dead bird. "Calum! There's a dead bird on our lawn!" I said. He ran over to me and pulled me away from the window. Michael said, "Dead birds? I don't think we need to check the website to see if her school's cancelled." All of a sudden, the lights turned on. Ashton was at the light switch and said, "Well the power's working again." Calum turned the TV on and changed to the news. They were saying stuff about how Mother Nature took its toll on us and stuff. It was crazy. I went upstairs to my room and started a group chat with Georgia, Riley, and Chloe.

Nicole: NO SCHOOL PEOPLE! WOOT WOOT!

Chloe has joined the group chat.

Chloe: i know I heard. My backyard is totally trashed.

Nicole: Yeah same. I found a dead bird in my backyard.

Georgia has joined the group chat.

Georgia: I found 2 dead squirrels. Beat that

Chloe: ur so competitive Georgia. Fighting over dead animals in your backyard? Come on

Riley has joined the group chat.

Riley: Am I the only one who's backyard isn't trashed?

Georgia: really? Lucky! My parents r gonna make me help clean the backyard 😩

Chloe: same with mine

Nicole: I'm not sure about the guys. They might

Riley: doubt they will

Nicole: what's that supposed 2 mean?

Georgia: yeah what's that supposed 2 mean Riley?

Riley: oh please. Don't tell me u don't see it. Nicole u r spoiled

And there it is. You see, Riley is the mean one in the group. If you want an example, Riley's like the Alison in Pretty Little Liars. Except, she's not dead. She's the rude and honest one but is still our friend. Huh. Now that I think about it, I could relate every one of us to people from Pretty Little Liars. Chloe would be Spencer because of how smart she is, Georgia would be Hanna because she's nice and sweet and all about looks, and I think I'd be more of an Aria. Don't you think?
