SUMMER BREAK

"Oh, my gosh, Ashton. I can't even believe it," I said.

"What is it, Nicole?" He replied.

"How in the world are your fingers so long???" I asked. Ashton laughed at my comment. "I mean, I can't believe I never noticed them before."

I grabbed his hand and looked closely at it. He didn't really mind.

We were sitting together on the couch in the living room watching SpongeBob. It was 11:00 in the morning, and we were kind of just chilling.

Calum walked in and said, "Yo, Ash. You seen my wallet anywhere?"

"No, man," he replied laughing, "How the hell did you lose your wallet?"

Calum looked at Ashton and said, "Okay, first of all, language. And second of all, I'm not really sure how I lost it. I think I left it in one of my pants pockets and then washed them but when I checked the laundry, I couldn't find anything."

"Haha, it probably got disintegrated in the washer," I said.

Calum paused for a second and just glared at me like I was stupid or something. He then said to me in a condescending voice, "I don't know if you knew this, Nicole, but that's not exactly how a washer works."

Ashton laughed at Calum's comment and then said sarcastically, "No, no, Calum. Don't you see? Washers are disintegrators and that's how they clean the clothes. It makes perfect sense. I mean, it's not like the clothes spin around in water and soap for awhile to clean them. I mean, come on. That's crazy talk." Both Calum and Ashton laughed and I did too because it was pretty funny, even though I had no idea what they were talking about. Washers disintegrate dirt from clothes, right? That's how they work. I know I'm right about this.

That's when I took the remote from the table and changed to eNews. But right when Ashton saw what I'd changed to, he snatched the remote from my hand and said, "Nope," and then he changed back to SpongeBob.

I looked at him and said, "Ashton, I want to watch eNews."

"Too bad," he said calmly.

I furrowed my eyebrows and said, "Why not?"

He replied, "Because I don't want you watching that kind of junk."

"What?" I said, "But, Ashton, it's not -- "

He interrupted me and said, "40% of the time, you're the one being talked about on that show. And 100% of the time, it's not good things about you."

I frowned and thought about what he said. I mean, it's kind of true. "But 40% isn't that much. I mean, it's not even over half," I said trying to come up with a reasonable argument even though I knew it wasn't good enough.

Calum said, "That doesn't matter, Nicole. Ashton's right and you need to listen to him."

Just as Calum was about to leave the room, I mumbled under my breath, "No, I don't." That's when he turned around and raised his eyebrows at me.

He crossed his arms and said sassily, "I'm sorry, what was that, Nicole?"

I looked at him and said, "What? Nothing."

He said, "It better be," before turning back around to go to the kitchen. I made sure Ashton wasn't looking, and then I rolled my eyes. If he was looking, I would've gotten into some serious trouble.
