Chapter 49

I was actually kinda excited to go shopping for a grad dress. I just like having a reason to dress up and look pretty. I coughed and Calum came back with some medicine. That's when I realized the motor outside had stopped which meant Michael was done mowing the lawn. Calum handed me a glass of water with a measuring cup that had some liquid medicine in it. "I thought I was old enough to take pills," I said as I grabbed the cup with medicine. Calum replied, "Yeah, but pills are for your aches and pains. This is what you need." I looked at at the medicine and it was blackish-reddish. You know what that means. IT TASTES AWFUL. "I can't drink this," I said, "It's gross." Calum tilted his head in annoyance.

Calum: Come on, Nicole. It'll be fine. Just drink the medicine.

Nicole: Mmm... No. I can't do it.

Calum: Take it, Nicole. You need it.

Nicole: Don't we have a better tasting one?

Calum: No, we do not. So drink the medicine.

At that moment, Michael came inside and said, "Hey."

Calum: Nicole, drink it.

Nicole: Ughhhhh....

Calum: Nicole. NOW.

Michael: What's the problem?

Calum: Nicole won't drink her medicine!

Michael: Why not?

Calum: She says it's gross.

Michael: You haven't even tasted it yet.

Nicole: I have before. And when medicine is that colour, it always tastes awful.

Calum: You're overreacting, Nicole! Take the medicine.

Nicole: No.

Calum: Take it!

Nicole: No.

Calum: Nicole...

Nicole: Calum...

Calum: Erghhhh, just take the damn medicine! (Covers mouth)

Nicole: Oh, please, Calum. I've heard words worse than that before.

Calum: Don't ever repeat what I just said.

Nicole: Wasn't really planning on it but whatever.

Calum: (sighs) Nicole... Just please... Take the medicine and drink the water after.

Nicole: (sighs) Ugh. FINE.

Calum: THANK YOU!!!

I looked down at the medicine and groaned. I didn't want to drink it but I had to. I hated annoying Calum like this. So I slowly brought it closer to mouth and eventually gulped it down. Calum handed me the water immediately as I was about to gag and puke but I drank the water quick enough that I was okay. After drinking the water, I said, "Blech!" While sticking my tongue out. The taste was still in my mouth. It was disgusting. I gave him the cup and the water and said, "I'm never drinking that ever again." He responded, "We'll see." As he began to walk away, I said back, "What do you mean, 'WE'LL SEE'?!?" But he was already gone. And there I was. Alone in the living room with a bad cough, a sore throat, a headache, and a blanket over my cold body. I decided to look at my iPod to see if I got another text from Austin and I did. Quite a long one to be honest.

Austin: hey I know this is kinda weird to ask but would it be okay for me to come over? I mean i know where u live and I don't mean to be a creep or anything. I just think we have gotten to know each other long enough over the past two days that we could meet in person

I didn't know what to say. I mean, yeah, we've gotten to know each other and stuff but it has only been two days. But I didn't want to let him down. I had to be nice about it or at least give him a good excuse.

Nicole: I really wish u could come over. Believe me I do. But I am way more sick than I thought and i would hate to get u sick too. I'm so sorry Austin. Maybe when I'm better u can come over

I was straight up honest with Austin and very nice about it too. And he seemed to understand quite well.

Austin: I totally understand. U r only trying to care for me and I appreciate that.

Nicole: no problem Austin 😊
