I continued to play on my iPod while Michael and Ashton continued to play their game. Eventually, I got bored of playing it and I turned my iPod off. Now I was just watching the TV as the two split screens were fighting. I asked, "Who's on the bottom and who's on the top?"
Michael began to laugh and said, "Oh, that sounds so wrong."
Ashton said, "Michael, Nicole's right beside you."
Michael said, "Sorry. Um, I'm on the bottom and --" he interrupted himself with his own laughter.
"Geez, Michael," said Ashton.
I got the point. If Michael was on the bottom, he didn't have to say the rest, because that had to mean Ashton was on the top.
They continued to play but I wasn't that interested, of course. In fact, it became so boring that I was ACTUALLY getting tired from it. I yawned covering my mouth with my hand. I felt a cold breeze come in from Ashton's window, and that woke me up. In fact, Michael and Ashton felt it too.
"Geez, man. Close your window, will you?" Said Michael.
"I can't, it's stuck. It's been like that since yesterday," replied Ashton, "I'm going to go get my blanket from the wash. It should be done by now. Pause the game." Michael paused the game as Ashton stood up and walked out of the room to go get his blanket from the dryer. Now it was just me and Michael laying in Ashton's room silently.
Michael randomly broke the silence by saying, "Do you know what high school you're going to?"
I replied, "Uh, I think Ashton knows. He's been taking care of it."
"Really? 'Cause you start school on September 6, which is in like, less than 2 weeks," said Michael.
"Wait, really?" I said looking at him.
"Yeah. You need to start going back to school shopping. And plus, it's a really big deal because you're starting high school for the first time. New school, new schedule, new friends," said Michael.
"Yeah, I guess," I replied.
"Do you have any orientation day coming up?" Asked Michael simply.
"What's that?"
"It's the day when you get your locker and your schedule. Oh, and a tour of the school," he answered.
"I'll have to ask Ashton. I don't know much about high school. I've only seen things about it on TV," I said.
Michael chuckled and said, "Honestly, it's nothing like the movies, Nicole, so get all of that out of your head. It's literally just exams and lunch."
"But what about the students? Aren't there going to be bullies?" I asked worriedly.
Michael hesitated having a hard time answering that question. He said, "Only..." But then he paused because he didn't know what to say after that. Then he finally said, "I've heard about your struggles in your previous school, Nicole, but that's all gone. Now there's new people, and if anyone tries to upset you, you come home and tell us. Don't cause any trouble with the person. But you also have to remember that school isn't all about the friends. You have to study really hard. People aren't going to be holding your hand anymore like they did when you were in elementary school."
"And you wonder why I'm scared," I said.
"Hey, no, it's nothing to be afraid of. I'm just saying that you're going to get a lot more work to do. Homework every night, stricter teachers, and exams are going to give you LOADS of breakouts."
I looked at Michael with furrowed eyebrows.
"You're a teenager, Nicole. Getting pimples is natural. It's a stage you go through in life," he said.
I looked away. I don't want to get pimples. I hope I don't have too much stress in high school. That would not look good.
Michael could see the worry on my face. He tried to change the subject so that I would forget all about it.
"Hey, when's your birthday, Nicole?" Asked Michael cheerfully.
"October 8," I responded.
"That's in like, 2 months! Aren't you excited?" He said.
"Yeah, I guess I am. I'll be 14," I replied, as high school was still on my mind. That's when the cold breeze came back from the window, and so did Ashton.
"Okay, I'm back with the blanket. And the best thing is, it's SUPER warm now," said Ashton.
He fanned the blanket over the bed covering everyone as he shimmied up to the side of me.
I had blanket covering everywhere. I was in a good spot. I was warm in a comfy bed under a comfy blanket with the beautiful smell of axe body spray by my sides. This definitely got my mind off of high school.
The breeze from the window continued to blow into the room. I pulled the blanket farther up all the way up to my nose. I was sooooooooo comfortable.
That may have been a good thing, but surprisingly, it was also a bad thing.
Because I was so comfortable, I felt reaaaaaaalllly sleepy. My eyes were droopy and it felt like I was watching How It's Made all over again.
I thought to myself, "No, Nicole! You've already been made fun of for falling asleep to a TV show about making stuff. You cannot let yourself be ridiculed by falling asleep to a video game about violence and fighting! That was make like, no sense at all." So I tried my hardest to stay awake. I really did! But the comfort of my position got the best of me, and I closed my eyes falling into a deep sleep............... In Ashton's bed.
