Louis Tomlinson
"You fired him?!" I banged my fist on the director's table. Not a smart move, really, considering how I watched them fire almost all of my friends from their jobs. I could be next.
"There was nothing we could do, Louis. It was management's decision." He answered me.
"Fuck, Simon. You are part of the management. This is bullshit." I cursed. At this rate I could care less about losing my job.
"Lou, please calm down. I've been reassigned to another school. It's not like I'm now jobless. That school pays well and it's closer to where I live. It's all good." Paul said. He's been the head teacher ever since I've started teaching and he's got a big influence on me. It's going to be different without him around.
And it's not just him. It's been weeks since I last saw Cher and Philip. They've been replacing them with newer, inexperienced teachers and all I could do is question them and not get decent answers.
"And besides, these new teachers need someone who can lead them. Someone who's just as young as they are. Someone they can relate with. And that's you, Louis. Congratulations. You've been promoted. You're now the school's head teacher." Simon held his hand out to me and I blankly took it because it was the polite thing to do when you've just been promoted.
But I wasn't happy. I wasn't happy at all. I'm losing my friends over some stupid position I never really wanted. I don't even know why Simon chose me. I've always been his favorite, everyone knows that. But I wasn't good. I was the type of teacher who didn't teach well. I was the type of teacher who was all about fun and not about learning.
"Take this as an opportunity, Lou. You can still teach, they're giving you a raise, and you'll be able to inspire younger teachers just like how I did when you were just starting. You'll do great, I know it." Paul smiled at me and shook my hand. How can he be so calm about this?!
"Paul, I don't--"
"Mr. Higgins was more than happy to accept the reassignment, Lou. I hope you are just as happy as he is now." Simon interrupted.
"Could you please just let us talk? Please?" I asked him.
"Fine. But I'm letting you know that the decision is final. You both are dismissed. And Higgins? Goodluck on your new assignment." He told Paul before letting us leave his office.
"Okay, spill. What the fuck is happening?!" I asked Paul as we walked out to the gardens.
"The board offered me a new job near my home and I accepted it. They needed a new head teacher here and Simon asked me if you could do it. I didn't doubt it for a second, I agreed right away. You know you're good, Louis. I trained you to be good. You're just doubting yourself." He put his arms around my shoulder, like how he used to when I was still starting out as a teacher.
"But you're leaving me." I said.
"Don't be over dramatic, I'm not leaving the country. If you need me, I'll be a phone call away. I promise. Besides, I have two months left before leaving this school. For now, I want you to learn everything you have to know about the system. You ready for that?"
