"This is useless." You shouted at your boyfriend of three years, Bucky Barnes. "I'm sorry, but I can't do this. Goodbye, Buck."
"Don't you dare do this to me, (Y/N)." Bucky pleaded, but there was no use, you had already left. "I love you." He whispered to no one.
That was a little under a year ago. After your break up with Bucky, you moved out of the Avengers tower and into a loft apartment in Brooklyn. You got yourself a job working in a small little coffee shop. You did everything you could to forget Bucky, to move on but you knew deep down that you would always love him and that you couldn't just forget him.
"(Y/N), your shift ended 35 minutes ago. Go home, I can handle it on my own." Your boss, Jennifer, urged.
Jennifer was a 37 year old women with two children. She had recently divorced her husband so you were just trying to make everything a little easier for her.
"Are you sure?" You questioned, untying your red little apron with the coffee shops logo on it from around your waist.
"I'm sure." She smiled, picking up a mug to clean. "You've been working so hard recently, why don't you take the next few days off, have a little time to yourself."
You shook your head at her offer, "No, no. I couldn't do that to you. Deborah is already off this week with the cold, Matthew is on his holiday which means you'd be under-staffed. I can't do that, Jennifer."
"(Y/N), seriously, it's fine. If you don't accept my offer I'll have to force you out of here and lock the door." She chuckled, setting the mug down to dry.
"Okay. Thank you, Jennifer." You waved to her before rushing to the stuff room to collect your belongings and put your apron back.
On your walk home, you felt as if you were being followed but quickly brushed the feeling off when you realised you were probably just being paranoid.
You popped both your headphones in, drowning out the sounds of the city around you. You bopped your head slightly to the beat of your favourite song.
No matter how hard you tried to ignore it, you just couldn't brush off the feeling that you were being followed. You glanced around, though, no one was there.
Shrugging, you turned back around and continued the walk back to your apartment. As you passed an alley, something - well more like someone - pulled you in. Before you could even scream for help, a hand clasped gently over your mouth, stopping you.
Your captor pulled their hood down and you were relieved to see that it was none other than Bucky. Though, your relief quickly washed away, being replaced by anger.
"What the hell do you think you're playing at?" You shouted, pushing the taller man away from you.
"(Y/N), I'm sorry." You rolled your eyes at his pathetic apology.
"You better be, Barnes. You scared the living daylights out of me!" You crossed your arms over your chest tightly, avoiding eye contact with Bucky.
"Well- no I'm not sorry for that. Well, I am but that's no what I was apologising for." You turned to Bucky, confused.
"What the hell are you going on about, James?" You exaggerated his name, you never called him that when you dated, you only every called him Buck or Bucky.
"I wanted to talk about us."
"Us?" He nodded his head slightly. "You dragged me into a dingy little alleyway to talk about us? There is nothing to talk about, James. There is no us anymore. There is just me and then there is just you." You growled, getting up in his face.
"So if you don't mind, I'd like to go home." You turned to exit the alleyway but you were instantly pulled back. You could feel the coldness of Bucky's metal arm cause goosebumps on your skin.
"(Y/N), please. I hate how things ended with us. I promise, I'll make it up to you, just give me a chance. I'll never put work before you again. Please just give me a chance, I beg you." Bucky pleaded, his hands clapped together as if he was praying.
You contemplated Bucky's words. As much as you wanted to hold your ground and say no, you just couldn't. The truthfulness in his voice enticed you. You couldn't help it.
"Fine." A breath of relief escaped his lips. "But you have to make it up to me in the best way possibly, Barnes." You pointed your finger at him.
"I will, (Y/N). Thank you so much for giving me a chance. I will prove myself." Bucky grinned, pulling you into a giant hug.
