The people of New York hurried around you, trying you get to wherever they had to be. You watched them all intently, watching the ones that were too busy on their phones nearly get hit by cars, or the little kids shouting for their mothers, or the friends gossiping to each other over a hot coffee.
Friends. That was something you wished you had. Ever since The Avengers found out about your true identity, none of them had made an effort to talk to you, to meet up with you, nothing. You kind of expected it, you had been lying to them, but it was for their own safety.
You missed them all, especially Steve and Bucky. Hell, you even missed Tony and his crazy antics. You just wished things could go back to how they were.
You couldn't believe how you felt, what sort of world class assassin actually cares about people? It was all so unfamiliar to you, you had never met people who cared so much about you and now it was all gone, in the blink of an eye everything you had was gone.
You dropped your cold coffee cup into the bin, getting up from the old bench you had been sitting on.
You began heading to the exit of the park, wanting nothing more than to get home, away from the city. You kept your head down, trying to keep yourself to yourself.
Your ears perked up, like some sort of dog when its owner squeaks its favourite toy, at the sound of three familiar voices. You turned in the direction you were sure they had come from and you were right, there stood Sam, Bucky and Steve recovering from no doubt a 5 mile jog.
You watched them for a minute or so, unsure if you should approach them or just leave it and walk away. As you had an inner battle with yourself, Bucky turned slightly, his eyes landing on you. He excused himself from the group and made his way over to you.
"(Y/N), hey!" He smiled slightly, waving his hand. You were shocked, was Bucky not mad at you like everyone else?
"Oh, Bucky. Hi." You grinned. "Uh, how are you?"
"I'm good, as far as good goes. How about you?" He asked, his long hair falling into his face with the wind.
"Not so good. Does everyone still hate me?" You asked nervously.
"What? No! Of course not! They were all just a little shocked about what had happened." Bucky answered.
"Well why has no one made an effort to even speak to me, Bucky? It's been 2 months!" You raised your voice slightly.
"They all thought that you wouldn't want to talk to them. They felt as if your friendship with everyone was all an act that you had played so you could get the job done."
So now the rest of the team thought that was the case as well as Steve. You honestly cared about them all so much.
"And Steve? How is he with everything?" You asked.
"Oh, of course you would ask about Steve." Bucky smirked. "Well he's trying to act like it doesn't bother him but we all know he secretly misses you."
You smiled slightly. "Oh, well, that's good." Bucky nodded.
"Hey, Steve." Bucky shouted, waving Steve over.
"Bucky, no!" You shouted. As Steve came closer, he noticed that it was you Bucky had been talking to.
"(Y/N)." Steve nodded firmly, crossing his arms over his chest. His face was emotionless.
"Hi." You gulped, feeling like you could cry. "How are you?" You asked.
"Oh, I'm as good as you can be after finding out that your best friend was actually just pretending to care about you." He answered sarcastically.
"Steve, I swear, it was not an act. Well yeah, it was to an extent. But everything with you was real, all our conversations, all the times we hugged, joked about, everything, it was all real." You pleaded, trying to get him to believe you.
He was silent for a few moments, going over the words in his head. He looked at you, defining how distressed you were.
"You're not lying?" He asked, unsure.
"Of course not, Steve. I love you." The last part wasn't meant to come out, that was supposed to be kept to yourself.
"Y-you what?" He asked, a deep red blush forming on his face.
"I love you." You repeated with more confidence. "When I first met you, I knew that it was a bad idea falling for you because in the end you would find out who I truly was but that didn't stop me from loving you."
"Really?" He asked, his hand came up to caress your face. His thumb gently wiped away some stray tears.
You nodded in reply, leaning forward slightly. Steve also began to lean in and before you knew it, his lips were on yours. You couldn't believe it was happening. You both pulled away, breathing heavily.
"I love you too, (Y/N). From the day that I met you. I've always loved you." Steve smiled.
