"Lola." You called out into the dark streets of New York. "Lola, where are you?"

Your cat hadn't been back home and you were worried. You knew that you could be over reacting but she was always at the door waiting to be let in and tonight was wasn't.

"Lola." You called again, wrapping your short night gown around you tighter. It probably wasn't one of your brightest idea's to wear shorts, a vest top and a flimsy night gown considering how cold it was but you weren't really thinking straight.

"God sake, where are you cat?" You mumbled to yourself, crossing the street.

"Ma'am?" A male voice called. Oh no. "Are you okay?"

You turned around to see an average sized man standing in front of you. He wore a purple dress shirt, a faded brown blazer, some grey trousers and running trainers. Not exactly fashion icon of the year, but then again, neither were you at the moment.

"Oh, um, yeah. Well, no, not really." You answered, weary of the man.

"What's wrong? If you don't mind my asking, and why are you out this late dressed in your pyjama's? You'll catch the cold." The man stepped closer, you took a step back. He didn't look suspicious but you could never be too sure.

"I lost my cat. Well, she's not lost, at least I don't think she is, but she hasn't come home for her supper. I came out to look for her, but I can't find her." It was at that moment you broke down, tears fell from your eyes. Your only little companion was gone.

"I'm so sorry." You wiped your fallen tears. "I'm acting so pathetic."

"Don't apologise, you're not being pathetic. It's perfectly normally to get upset over a missing pet. You're only human." He smiled sympathetically.

"You know," you looked up at him, "you should probably head home. You'll freeze to death. Not literally, but you know what I mean." He chuckled slightly, as did you.

"Yeah, I guess I should." You sniffled. You turned to walk away but not before the man spoke again.

"Do you want me to walk you home?" He asked, "I promise I'm not some weird person."

You thought about it for a second, you would rather walk home with this seemingly nice guy than risk walking back on your own.

"Yeah, sure. That would be nice." You smiled. You both began walking. You spent the duration of the journey talking to each other. The man, who you now knew as Bruce asked about your cat and you told him all about her.

"Well this is it." You turned to him. "Thank you for walking me home, Bruce."

"No bot-" Bruce was cut off by a loud meowing. You both turned to your house to find Lola scratching at the front door.

"Lola!" You squealed, picking the fluffy cat up of the steps. You cuddled her into your chest, nuzzling your nose into her fur.

"I missed you. Why did you run off like that?" You asked, holding her tighter.

Bruce watched on with a fond smile. He'd only known you 20 minutes and you had become one of the most genuine, down to earth people he knew.

"Well, bye." He smiled, waving slightly. You weren't really paying attention so he thought it best to leave.

"Bruce! Wait!" You called after him. He turned to you as you ran over to him.

"Would I be able to see you again?" You asked hopefully. He looked shocked, oh no, maybe he had a girlfriend, or maybe he only felt sorry for you.

"You're serious?" He asked.

"Why wouldn't I be? I mean, you walked me home at half eleven at night in the pitch dark. I'd like to repay you. Plus you seem like really great guy. I'd hate to just let you go." You answered honestly.

"Wow. Yeah, of course. Yeah. Um, I can call by sometime, you know, since I know where you live?" He offered.

"Yeah, that'd be great! You can stop by tomorrow if you like? Or is tomorrow too soon? If so then that's fine." You nervously asked.

"No, no! Tomorrows fine, tomorrow's great, actually. So I'll see you tomorrow, let's say 12pm?"

"It's a date." You smiled. "Bye, Bruce!"

"Goodbye, (Y/N)" he waved as he retreated down the street. Once he was gone you rushed into your warm house and out of the cold nights air.
