Growing up in the shadow of your older brother Tony was never something you enjoyed much. It was always Tony this, Tony that. It was the same when you and Tony were kids, even though you were a little younger than him, he was still the favourite.
He was always congratulated on his intelligence where as you were the one that was always scolded for not being clever enough.
Although nowadays, things were easier. Your friends, The Avengers, treated you and Tony equally. They knew what it was like to have Tony get a little big for his boots, and that wasn't something they liked.
There was one other Avenger in particular that took a keen liking towards you. Steve and you had been good friends ever since he woke up from being frozen. You helped him get used to this new world he lived in, you stayed with him, helped him with the nightmares he used to get quite frequently. You were best friends.
You had always hoped it could have been something more but you knew that in the 40's, Steve's one true love was Peggy, and she was something you could never replace. Plus, Steve was always so serious and busy, he would never have time to think about you like that. Or so you thought.
You say on the couch in The Avengers tower, a book in hand. You were snuggled under a blanket. Your eyes flicked across the pages as you let yourself delve into the book, forgetting all about the outside world.
Just as you were finally getting into the book, your were abruptly interrupted by yours truly.
"What do you want, Tony?" You sighed as he jumped onto the couch beside you.
"Good to see you sis. So anyways..." He pulled your blanket away from you, covering himself with it. "Weird question, are you and Steve just friends?"
You frowned at his question, pulling the blanket from his grip and pulling it back over your cold body. "Yeah, why do you ask?"
"Oh, no reason" he smirked. You were panicking inside, thinking someone might have told him about your feelings for Steve. Although, you found comfort in the fact that you had told nobody about your feelings so really, it can't have been that that had Tony acting like that.
"There is obviously a reason, Tony, or you wouldn't have asked and you wouldn't be sitting smirking like an idiot." You pointed out, pushing your brother for a reason to his stupid behaviour.
"All in good time, dear sister. All in good time." He grinned, getting up off of the couch before leaving.
You watched after him for a few seconds, your eyebrows furrowed. You continued reading your book but your previous conversation with Tony was still nagging you at the back of your mind.
A few hours later, you trudged into the kitchen, looking for some sort of snack that would stop the incessant grumbling in your stomach.
Your eyes landed on a packet of double chocolate chip cookies on the top shelf of the cupboard. You stretched your hand up, in an effort to reach them but it was no use. You pulled a chair up to the counter, standing up on it, once again attempting to reach the cookies.
"Stupid Tony, making these shelves so god damn high up." You muttered to yourself, your hand stretching up as far as it could.
