As Merle walked ahead towards where their group was, Daryl fell behind, Sam noticed this and slowed her pace and walked next to Daryl.
"Are you okay?" She asked with concern in her voice.
He just nodded his head and quickened his pace, leaving Sam confused. Why was he acting differently? Had she done something wrong?
Sighing she jogged and caught up with Daryl. He glanced at her and shook his head. This girl is going to annoy him. He just knew it.
"Woah, easy there officer. Just me and ma brother.." Merle spoke as entered a clearing. He paused for a moment.
"And a guest."
"A guest?" A different man spoke.
Feeling brave, Sam walked ahead of Daryl and entered the clearing to see a camp. She looked around and noticed the scattered tent, a camp fire and an RV. Quite a good amount of people, and a few children running around.
"Mmmhmm. A young thing too. About sixteen. Come ta think of it she looks like you. You got a kid?" Merle asked with a smirk.
"No I don't. And even if I did it's none of your bussiness Dixon." The other man growled.
The man looked behind Merle and saw Sam. His eyes widended in surprise. A small smile appeared on his face and felt like he was about to cry.
Sam looked directly at him and felt like she was seeing things.
"Sam..." He whispered.
That's all it took. She left Daryl who had now joined her side and ran into the mans arms.
"Shane." She cried.
They hugged for a few minutes before a woman and her child joined him.
"Sam...I...It's really you." He smiled as a few tears left his eyes.
"It's really you too." She laughed.
Shane turned his attention to Merle and roughly grabbed his shirt collar and pushed him against a tree.
"Hey get off me man." Merle growled.
"If you layed a finger on her I will kill you. Understand me douchebag? I will kill you!" Shane warned.
"I didn't touch her. Get your hands off me." Merle argued.
Sam pulled Shane off Merle and pushed Shane away.
"You haven't changed have you Shane? Always jumping to conclusions. Accusing people of doing stuff when they haven't done shit. You're not my Dad. You were just there for me when my Dad wasn't!" She snapped at him.
"Sam I'm sorry. I'm..Well was a cop before the world went to Hell...It's my duty to protect you. Protect everyone." Shane sighed.
Sam shook her head and went to Merle's side and then looked at Daryl who was just stood there, watching everything.
"I don't need protecting." She said looking at Shane.
"Even if I did, I wouldn't want you protecting me." She mumbled to herself. Merle heard her though and eyed her suspiciously but said nothing of it.
Shane sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He looked around and noticed people watching.
"You should go introduce yourself to everyone Sam. Since you're going to be staying here." Shane ordered.
"IF I stay here." Sam countered.
"Ye are stayin' 'ere. If ye try 'n run away, I will track ye down." Daryl butted in.
Sam looked at Daryl and a small smile appeared on her face. This is what being cared about feels like...It had been so long since she felt this.
Sam nodded her head at him and he nodded back. She sighed and looked around. Time to introduce herself to her new group.
