Chapter Fifty Six

Sam's POV

Me and Carl, stood outside and I watched as he shuffled his feet. I tilted my head to the side and he kept his head down. I was about to speak but he beat me to it.

"I really like Sophia." He says lifting his head up to look at me.

I smile at him, and squeeze his shoulder gently.

"That's okay, is there something else on your mind?"

"I want her to be my girlfriend...But I'm scared she doesn't like me back...Yeah we kissed but that was only once." He says sadly.

I get down on my knees and take his hands in mine.

"Carl...Don't think about these kinda things yet...You're still young. I know the world has ended and you gotta protect the ones you love at all costs and sometimes you can still lose them.." I pause not knowing where I'm going with this.. "If you want to be Sophia's boyfriend then ask her how she feels..But don't rush. Just be a kid a little longer yeah?"

He smiles and nods his head.

"Got it."

I watch him walk away and I smile. I've seen the way he looks at Sophia. He'll do anything for her. He may be young but he's whipped.

"Hello? Earth to Sam." Riley says waving her hand in my face.

"Hm? Sorry." I mumble and she laughs.

"It's fine. I was wondering if you wanna go on a run with me?" She asks.

"When?" I ask narrowing my eyes.

"Well we still have some daylight left, so...Now? I have to talk to you about something and I don't want anyone else to hear." She says looking around.

I nod my head and signal for her to wait one minute. I have my knife on me, I just have to say goodbye.

"Where's Beth?" I ask Carol.

"Caaaarol." Ellie grins and I give her a confused look as she wraps her arms around Carol and pecks her cheek.

"Yes Ellie?" Carol laughs.

"I love youuuu." She smiles.

"Is she drunk?" I ask crossing my arms.

Carol shrugs her shoulders and then points to mine and Beth's cell.

I walk inside and see Beth doodling in a book, she's laying on her stomach and my eyes go straight for her ass.

I bite my lip and when I tear my eyes away Beth has a smirk on her lips.

"Can I help you?" She asks closing the book and sitting up.

"I'm going on a run with Riley, we'll be back soon." I say and walk over to her and kiss her slowly.

"You better come back to me Sam." She warns.

"I promise. I promise I'll come back.. To protect you. To kiss you. To hold you.  I have something to fight for. Those walkers won't stand a chance when I fight to get back to you. I love you." I smile and give her another quick kiss.

"Love you too." She says barely above a whisper and I can tell she's trying not to cry.

I walk out of the cell and bump into Ellie who has a stupid grin on her face and I know she heard everything. I give her a quick hug and then say goodbye to everyone else.

When I walk outside Riley is waiting for me.

"You ready?" She asks.

I nod my head and we walk out of the prison grounds...I wonder what's on Riley's mind. First Carl, now Riley...Maybe Riley is having boyfriend trouble...I'll find out soon enough what she wants to talk about.
