"We are products of our past but we don't have to be prisoners of it."- Rick Warren

The next morning Mae wandered into the kitchen to find Amelia and Opie, both red faced from crying and stinking of alcohol. She stopped, surprised and unsure if she was interrupting, until Amelia looked up at her.

"Sorry," she rolled her eyes. "Long night."

"Are you guys okay?" She hurried to Opie's side and kissed his cheek sweetly. "I woke up and you weren't here, I freaked out, Ope.

"Well, I got arrested," the red head scoffed.

"And my ex-wife, who didn't really have an abortion when she said she did, called me after finally having one to tell me she was sorry and she regretted it."

Mae blinked as she looked between them. "I think the Winstons need to catch a break." Leaning in to Opie she whispered, "I am so sorry. Are you okay?"

Stoically he nodded. "I'll be fine. I'm sorry I didn't wake you up, I thought something happened, she was fucking mess."

"It's ok, I understand. I have to leave though, Ope. The nurse called, they think she's going soon."

Amelia fidgeted by the sink as she put on a pot of coffee and tried to eavesdrop. She liked Mae, once she got to know her, but she was still nosy and Opie was her brother, she was possessive like that.

"Baby, I'm sorry," he gripped her upper arms and pulled her in for a hug. "Do you need me to come up with you?"

"Nah," she shook her head. "I think your sister needs you more and you probably need her too. I'll be fine."

"Where did you come from?" He grinned. "You're so fucking fine with everything, mostly."

"I have no clue," she laughed. "They say when two people fall in love they have babies but that can't explain it, my folks hated each other."

Opie laughed, not knowing the pain behind her comment, and kissed her sweetly. "I'll fill you in with the Donna shit later, okay?"

"Yeah, can't wait for that story," she rolled her eyes. "Meels, good luck, I guess. I'm sorry you're going through this shit."

"Thanks," she held back tears and unexpectedly hugged Mae. "I'm sure I'll see you around."

"You will," Mae laughed. "I'm just going to jump in the shower and head out, okay? Kids are still sleeping." Opie nodded and Mae bounced toward the stairs.

"I like her," Amelia sighed. "I didn't think I would and I felt I shouldn't but after what you just told me," she shook her head. "It's Donna's decision but the way she went about it, all the lying and shit, I'm NOT okay with that. I'm just glad you're happy."

"What are you going to do?" He asked, gratefully taking the coffee she'd fixed for him. "You gotta find a way to settle your shit down and-"

"Be happy?" She laughed. "I don't even know what's going to make me happy. I'm with Juice and my mind wanders to Jax, I'm with Jax and he just makes me crazy and I want to vomit. I don't want to be alone, I can't be alone, that must be something we share cause of Mary and Dad or something. I wanted to raised Alice in a happy home with parents who loved each other, that's all I wanted."

"If you go back to Jax," he noticed her expression change, "I'm not an idiot, I know you and I can read between the lines of that little speech. You're thinking about it and if you go back to him, he'll do it again and Alice will grow up watching that shit. If I didn't see what Piney cheating on mom did to her and us, I wouldn't have waited with Mae."
