"Don't Let Me Get Me" (Ben Mason Fanfic)

Chapter Fifteen : " Way across the river ..."

 We set up a temporary camp just before a bridge on the river. We would have crossed it already but we're not sure of the strength of the foundation. Me, Maggie, Allison, Jimmy, Tector, Dai, Hal, Dad, Jamil and Captain Weaver all went to the bridge to check it out.

 "Are you sure it will hold?" Dad asked Jamil as they're checking the steels on the side of the bridge. "I'm sure of it, even if some areas are corroded and rusty , It'll hold" Jamil replied to him.

 I looked to Allison and saw her talking to Maggie at the back of the truck. Jimmy and I decided to take some walk.

 "I saw Pope's got this amazing new ammunition. It's like firebreath" Jimmy said while we're walking towards the end of the bridge.

 "That's cool" I said.

 Then suddenly , we saw Beamers coming towards the bridge. "Incoming!!" I shouted and they all resumed position. Dai jumped on the back of the truck and fired at them. Jimmy and I started shooting it and it fell. But the thing is , it's heading for the bridge.

 I looked at Allison and saw her and Maggie running away. The falling Beamer struck  a part of the bridge and then fell on the other side of the river and into the woods. "Nice shot" I said to Dai as soon as we got there.

 Since the bridge is broken and Jimmy and I are still on the other side , we had to be rescued with a boat in order to go back to them.

 Once we're sure that the other beamer left , we returned to the bridge. "Now how are we gonna cross?" Hal asked.

 "We can use a steel wall and patch the hole" Jamil said.

 "Nice idea" he then replied.

 "But how are there beamers in here?" Captain Weaver then asked and looked at Dad. "They must have a base in the woods".

 "I could check it out. I can swim across the river , that will be faster" I said and then looked at them. "Woah. when is this your job?" Dad then asked.

 "Since you left" I said.

 "Ben's the go to guy when it comes to swimming. He's right , he can cross the river faster" Captain Weaver then said and looked at me and added "You take Allison with you". I nodded and then looked at Allison.

 That night , Allison and I left to check out the alien camp. "Are you sure you wanna go there alone? I can swim too" she said.

 "It's okay. water's cold" I said and then looked at her.

 "Just be careful okay?"

 "I will" I said and then started to remove my long sleeves. "What are you doing?" she then asked. "Well, I need to be warm after I swim" I said to her and then put the clothing into my water-proof bag.

 "Fine. Whatever you say"

 "And besides , the water's invigorating" I said to her and she smiled. Then I jumped into the water and crossed the river. I quickly brought out my flash light and started to search the area. I came across the fallen beamer.

 Then I started hearing that painful buzz in my head again , the same one I heard from the radio in the school. I saw what it seemed like a compartment box , I tore the metal open and saw a small harness-like alien sending out the buzz. I stepped on it several times and thankfully , it died and the buzzing stopped. I decided to take some pictures of it to show Dad and the others.

 Then I head on and ended up seeing their base , surrounded by mechs and beamers flying by. This is bad , if we go anywhere near it , they'll sense us. I also took some pictures of it and decided to go back.
